Boosting the Energy Density of “Anode‐Free” Lithium Metal Batteries via Electrospun Polymeric Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
While host structures are known to enhance the reversibility and safety of lithium metal deposition, their additional volume and weight often decrease the battery's energy density and specific energy. By combining a lightweight and porous scaffold of electrospun polymer with a thinner separator, this article demonstrates a simultaneous improvement of ...

Non-Calcined Metal Tartrate Pore Formers for Lowering Sintering Temperature of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

open access: yesCrystals
This paper investigates the application of non-calcined metal tartrate as a novel alternative pore former to prepare functional ceramic composites to fabricate solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs).

Numerical simulation on gradient cooling behavior of jumbo slab ingot [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2013
Shrinkage porosity defect is often found in an air cooled jumbo steel ingot, which will influence the quality of the final rolled plates. In practical production, some rolled plates are frequently rejected due to the serious shrinkage porosity of the ...

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Diffractive Vector Mesons in DIS: Meson Structure and QCD

open access: yes, 2000
I review the modern status of QCD theory of diffractive vector meson production with the focus on shrinkage of photons with Q2 and (Q2+mV2)$scaling, j-plane properties of the QCD pomeron and Regge shrinkage of diffraction cone, $s$-channel helicity non ...

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...

Analysis of Mass Transfer and Shrinkage Characteristics of Chinese Cabbage (Brassica rapa L. ssp. pekinensis) Leaves during Osmotic Dehydration

open access: yesFoods
The mass transfer and shrinkage characteristics of Chinese cabbage (CC) during osmotic dehydration (OD) were investigated. The leaves were grouped into four sections and analyzed based on their morphological characteristics (i.e., maturity, width, and ...

Reevaluating the Activity of ZIF‐8 Based FeNCs for Electrochemical Ammonia Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Though receiving much attention, the field of electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) to ammonia is marked by doubts about whether this reaction is possible in aqueous media. This work sheds light on this question for iron single‐atom on N‐doped carbon (FeNC) catalysts—a class of well‐known catalysts that is also worth testing for the sister

Homogenization Path Based on 250 mm × 280 mm Bloom under Mixed Light and Heavy Presses: Simulation and Industrial Studies

open access: yesMetals
This study proposed a new method for homogenizing continuous casting blooms based on solidification simulation calculations and industrial tests. The text describes a theoretical analysis of the solidification route of a cast billet of high-carbon alloy ...
