Peptide Sequencing With Single Acid Resolution Using a Sub‐Nanometer Diameter Pore

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To sequence a single molecule of Aβ1−42–sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), the aggregate is forced through a sub‐nanopore 0.4 nm in diameter spanning a 4.0 nm thick membrane. The figure is a visual molecular dynamics (VMD) snapshot depicting the translocation of Aβ1−42–SDS through the pore; only the peptide, the SDS, the Na+ (yellow/green) and Cl− (cyan ...

Prediction of Plastic Shrinkage Cracking of Self-Compacting Concrete

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
Concrete exposed to hot climatic conditions is prone to plastic shrinkage after casting within the first few hours due to the water evaporation and restraining conditions of concrete.

Appoximation-assisted [sic] estimation of eigenvectors under quadratic loss [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Improved estimation of eigen vector of covariance matrix is considered under uncertain prior information (UPI) regarding the parameter vector. Like statistical models underlying the statistical inferences to be made, the prior information will be ...

Designing Thermally Compatible Template‐Coating Pairs Toward Dimensionally Stable 3D Porous Carbons with Tunable Density

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
3D porous carbons with tunable density are crucial for energy storage, separations, and load‐bearing applications; however, their fabrication is often constrained by shrinkage during pyrolysis. This study optimizes and demonstrates the versatility of a template–coating pair strategy, producing materials that largely retain their shape and hierarchical ...

Exploiting Two‐Photon Lithography, Deposition, and Processing to Realize Complex 3D Magnetic Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two‐photon lithography (TPL) enables 3D magnetic nanostructures with unmatched freedom in geometry and material choice. Advances in voxel control, deposition, and functionalization open pathways to artificial spin ices, racetracks, microrobots, and a number of additional technological applications.

Tailoring Microstructure in Copper‐Based Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Enhanced Chemiresistive Sensing and Uptake of Sulfur Dioxide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Precursor‐ and solvent‐mediated synthesis yields four Cu3(HHTP)2 morphologies with distinct physicochemical, sorption, and sensing properties toward SO2. Uptake capacities correlate with BET surface area, while sensing performance scales with particle aspect ratio.

Fractal Function Estimation via Wavelet Shrinkage

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 1997
Summary In scientific studies objects are often very rough. Mathematically these rough objects are modelled by fractal functions, and the fractal dimension is usually used to measure their roughness. This paper investigates fractal function estimation by wavelet shrinkage. It is shown that wavelet shrinkage can estimate fractal functions
