Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

Preliminary test-shrinkage estimators

open access: yesSuid-Afrikaanse Tydskrif vir Natuurwetenskap en Tegnologie, 1983
The advantages of using the very simple shrinkage estimator TL proposed by Lemmer rather than that proposed by Mehta and Srivivasan in the case of preliminary test estimators for parameters of the normal, binomial and Poisson distributions are examined.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Unleashing the Power of Machine Learning in Nanomedicine Formulation Development

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A random forest machine learning model is able to make predictions on nanoparticle attributes of different nanomedicines (i.e. lipid nanoparticles, liposomes, or PLGA nanoparticles) based on microfluidic formulation parameters. Machine learning models are based on a database of nanoparticle formulations, and models are able to generate unique solutions

Region‐to‐Region Unidirectional Connection In Vitro Brain Model for Studying Directional Propagation of Neuropathologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.

Shrinking the Variance-Covariance Matrix: Simpler is Better

open access: yesLahore Journal of Economics
This study focuses on the estimation of the covariance matrix as an input to portfolio optimization. We compare 12 covariance estimators across four categories – conventional methods, factor models, portfolios of estimators and the shrinkage approach ...

An Efficient Single Stage Shrinkage Estimator for the Scale parameter of Inverted Gamma Distribution

open access: yesIbn Al-Haitham Journal for Pure and Applied Sciences, 2017
The present  paper agrees  with estimation of scale parameter θ of the Inverted Gamma (IG) Distribution when the shape parameter α is known (α=1), bypreliminarytestsinglestage shrinkage estimators using  suitable  shrinkage weight factor and region.

The Distribution of Stochastic Shrinkage Parameters in Ridge Regression [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article we derive the density and distribution functions of the stochastic shrinkage parameters of three well-known operational Ridge Regression estimators by assuming normality. The stochastic behavior of these parameters is likely to affect the

A Termite‐Inspired Alternative to Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A termite‐inspired composite of clay, cellulose, and lignin forms a dense fibrous network with concrete‐like strength (32 MPa) and superior elasticity, processed at ambient temperature. Abstract Clay combined with organic materials is used by termites as a strong and durable construction material for their mounds with minimal environmental impact. Here,
