Shrub tundra snowmelt

open access: yesHydrological Processes, 2006
AbstractObservations of land surface and snowpack energetics and mass fluxes were made over arctic shrub tundra of varying canopy height and density using radiometers, eddy covariance flux measurements, and snow mass changes from snow surveys of depth and density.

Modelled sensitivity of the snow regime to topography, shrub fraction and shrub height [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2014
Abstract. Recent studies show that shrubs are colonizing higher latitudes and altitudes in the Arctic. Shrubs affect the wind transport, accumulation and melt of snow, but there have been few sensitivity studies of how shrub expansion might affect snowmelt rates and timing.

Understanding well‐being and safety for First Nations children and young people in the Riverland—Engaging with metic knowledge via a capability approach

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
Abstract Aboriginal culture is both a strength and a protective factor for Aboriginal children; yet, we continue to see disparities in education, health and well‐being outcomes. To improve outcomes for Aboriginal children and families, local cultural ways of knowing, being and doing need to be incorporated into policy and practice.

Pruning Landscape Trees and Shrubs

open access: yesEDIS, 2019
The objective of this document is to present pruning techniques for Florida trees, shrubs and palms. The need for pruning, timing, types of pruning, tree pruning, shrub pruning and tools are discussed separately. Specific examples will support the pruning concepts.

Nanoparticles Functionalized with Polymer Brushes for Gene Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
The engineering of the next generation gene delivery vectors requires the precise control of the architecture and physicochemical interactions controlling the transport, targeting, uptake, and release of nucleic acid materials to targeted cells. Polymer brush‐functionalized nanomaterials offer unprecedented control over such design and properties, and ...

Glycosylation‐dependent Stability of Human Pentraxin‐2 Revealed by Surface‐Induced Dissociation and Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Pentraxin‐2 (PTX‐2), also known as Serum Amyloid P component, functions as an immunoregulatory glycoprotein and plays a crucial role in fibrotic diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Desialylation of PTX‐2 has recently been associated with reduced bioactivity and diminished inhibition of fibrocyte differentiation in IPF patients.

Shrub coverage alters the rumen bacterial community of yaks (Bos grunniens) grazing in alpine meadows

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Technology, 2020
Proliferation of shrubs at the expense of native forage in pastures has been associated with large changes in dry-matter intake and dietary components for grazing ruminants.

Response of Four Shrubs to Drought Stress and Comprehensive Evaluation of Their Drought Resistance

open access: yesAgriculture
Drought stress is a crucial factor limiting plant survival and growth, especially during the seedling establishment stage. A deep understanding of different plants’ responses to drought stress and their drought resistance is of great significance for ...

Disparity of turbinal bones in placental mammals

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Turbinals are key bony elements of the mammalian nasal cavity, involved in heat and moisture conservation as well as olfaction. While turbinals are well known in some groups, their diversity is poorly understood at the scale of placental mammals, which span 21 orders.
