Different species-specific traits of woody plant species, feeding preferences of herbivores together with resulting effects on plant competition are expected to translate into different plant community structures and expressions of biodiversity.

A shrub bending model to calculate the albedo of shrub-tundra [PDF]
At high latitudes, the albedo and energy budget of shrub-tundra landscapes is determined by the relationship between the fractional snow cover and the fraction of vegetation protruding above the snowpack. The exposed vegetation fraction is affected by the bending and/or burial of shrubs in winter and their spring-up during melt.

Shrubs indirectly increase desert seedbanks through facilitation of the plant community [PDF]
The mechanisms supporting positive ecological interactions are important. Foundation species can structure desert biodiversity by facilitating seedbanks of annual plants, but the direct and indirect mechanisms of shrub effects on seedbank have not been ...

One-pot synthesis of Forsythia@carbon quantum dots with natural anti-wood rot fungus activity
This study synthesized the Forsythia@carbon quantum dots (CQDs) in one-pot method with a natural anti-wood rot fungus activity. Chinese herbal medicine-Forsythia was used as a raw material, and the environmental-friendly fluorescent Forsythia@CQDs was ...

Dendroflora of the “wschód” estate in Świdnik (Lublin voivodeship) – nature and landscape analysis [PDF]
The research presented in this paper concerns the diversity and spatial structure of town green areas. Its goal was to compare the dendroflora of the “Wschód” estate in Świdnik with similar urban architectural complexes that have been analysed thus far ...

Cyrtophora citricola (Araneae: Araneidae: Cyrtophorinae), a first record for Turkey [PDF]
We recorded the tent-web spider Cyrtophora citricola (Forsskål, 1775) (Araneidae: Cyrtophorinae) from Turkey for the first time at two sites. Body measurements and a brief description of the female are presented, as well as information on the sites ...

Evolutionary lability underlies drought adaptation of Australian shrubs along aridity gradients
Leaf drought tolerance traits influence plant survival in water deficit conditions, and these traits are influenced by both the plant’s evolutionary history and the environment in which the plant is currently growing.
