Optimum shunt capacitor group fusing
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1977This investigation examines the optimum selection of group fuses for shunt capacitor banks used for power factor correction on electric utility systems. The optimization is based on choosing fuse links which are as small as possible in order to minimize the probability of case rupture in event of capacitor failure, yet which are large enough to avoid ...

Shunt Power Capacitor Electric Field Simulation
2011 Asia-Pacific Power and Energy Engineering Conference, 2011This article uses IES electromagnetic field calculation software to simulate the internal electric field distribution of shunt capacitors, and discusses a variety of electrode on the capacitor. Simulation results show that folding prominent forms of capacitor electrode has the best performance of partial discharge.

Shunt capacitors in large transmission networks
Electrical Engineering, 1954IT IS WELL KNOWN that the most efficient operation of a power distribution network is obtained when the power factor of the load throughout the network is approximately 100 per cent. Transmission lines, however, when operated at the loads and voltage levels of maximum economy, require large amounts of reactive kilovolt-amperes (kvar), particularly at ...

Optimal Shunt Capacitor Allocation by Nonlinear Programming
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1987This paper presents a method, developed to optimally allocate shunt capacitors for energy loss reduction and voltage correction of electric power systems in their steady-state operation. The model is nonlinear, based on the bus impedance reference frame, and takes into account the uncertainty of load.

Class E Rectifier With Controlled Shunt Capacitor
IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2012A new type of Class E rectifier that can regulate the output voltage or power is proposed. The proposed rectifier is composed of a conventional Class E zero-voltage-switching rectifier and the controlled shunt capacitor whose capacitance is variable according to the state of the active switches.

Controlled shunt capacitor self-excited induction generator
Conference Record of 1998 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Third IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.98CH36242), 2002This paper proposes a new self-excited induction generator (SEIG) voltage regulation scheme. The proposed SEIG scheme utilizes the concept of a continuously controlled capacitor and is called the controlled shunt capacitor SEIG. Anti-parallel IGBT switches are used across the fixed excitation capacitors to regulate the voltage across a 7.5 hp induction

A Digitally Controlled Shunt Capacitor CMOS Delay Line
Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, 1999Delay-controlled CMOS delay lines have been proved useful in a number of applications, notably the digitization of short time intervals. This paper introduces a new kind of CMOS delay line, in which the delay element is an array of capacitors controlled by a digital signal vector.

Class DE Inverter with Asymmetric Shunt Capacitors
2007 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2007This paper presents a class DE inverter with asymmetric shunt capacitors. Generally the shunt capacitors of class DE inverter are equally given to the two switching devices. The input current from the dc power source flows into the upper shunt capacitor during the dead time.

A study of capacitor element failures in high voltage Shunt Capacitor Banks
2017 IEEE 30th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE), 2017Internal failures in Shunt Capacitor Bank (SCB) units render trips from unbalance protection to prevent from further damage to the equipment. Fuseless and internally fused capacitor cans are the dominant technologies in power capacitor design, which do not provide external indication for units with failed elements.

Transient Characteristics Analysis of Shunt Capacitor Asynchronous Energizing
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2020The capacitor energizing transient as a kind of typical disturbance is used in the studies of power quality, condition monitoring, and other fields, and all studies heavily rely on transient characteristics. However, most characteristics are established based on the three-phase capacitor synchronous energizing (SE), and the effect of asynchronous ...
