High Voltage Mitigation of EHV System by Shunt Reactor vs Shunt Capacitor
2019 8th International Conference on Power Systems (ICPS), 2019Rajasthan power system has extensively grown in last 10 years due to potential of wind & solar power projects, construction of transmission system for formation of National Grid and for evacuation of large thermal power plants. Large number of 765 kV and 400 kV transmission lines have been constructed.

New method of capacitors failure detection and location in shunt capacitor banks
2018 71st Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers (CPRE), 2018To achieve more reliable grid it is crucial for utilities to expedite the repair process of critical assets, including Shunt Capacitor Banks (SCBs). Exposure to sharp temperature variations, transient over voltages, aging and manufacturing defects can cause internal failures of capacitor elements.

Optimal shunt capacitor placement in radial distribution system
2016 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon), 2016This paper proposed a Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) method to identify the optimal location and size of shunt capacitor in radial distribution system. The main objective is to reduce the power loss in the system by using the reactive power compensation strategy.

Synchronous Closing Control for Shunt Capacitors
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1985A practical application of synchronous closing (voltage zero energization) to reduce HV and EHV shunt capacitor in-rush currents and overvoltages is presented with field results. Switch and circuit breaker timing and dielectric performance are discussed.

Shunt capacitor effect on electrical distribution system reliability
IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1994To improve the security and reliability of a distribution system, as much power as feasible must go through a given transmission line. This can be achieved by using shunt capacitors as compensators. These shunt capacitive compensators improve the load carrying capability of the line by controlling the reactive power flow.

Application of shunt capacitors to network systems
Electrical Engineering, 1954A low power factor has been caused in many systems during the summer months which is becoming an increasing problem in voltage regulation of distribution systems and networks. The installation of capacitors on the low-voltage side of networks is one way to increase materially the available capacity of network transformers.
