The influence of portal blood upon lipid metabolism in normal and diabetic dogs and baboons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
It has been reported that hyperlipidemia can be alleviated in human beings with an end to side portacaval shunt. Understanding the mechanism of the effect has important implications, including the possibility of devising other ways of lowering serum ...

The importance of shunt valve position in flow characteristics of the Medtronic PS Medical Delta valve [PDF]

open access: yesNeurosurgical Focus, 1999
This study was conducted to document the extent to which flow depends on valve position in relation to head-pressure reference. Medtronic PS Medical Delta valves (contour model, performance levels 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0) were studied in a bench test designed to evaluate flow rates with respect to valve position in

Risk Factors for Malfunction of Ventriculoperitoneal Shunts Performed by Medical Residents in Children: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesArquivos Brasileiros de Neurocirurgia: Brazilian Neurosurgery, 2022
Abstract Introduction Ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPSs) are common neurosurgical procedures, and in educational centers, they are often performed by residents. However, shunts have high rates of malfunction due to obstruction and infection, especially in pediatric patients. Monitoring the outcomes of shunts performed by trainee neurosurgeons

Self‐Assisted Charge Storage‐Release Mechanism Enabling Flexible Design of Biomimetic Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Inspired by the mimosa, this study develops a flexible triboelectric nanogenerator with a novel microneedle array and battery‐mimetic architecture. The device introduces a spontaneous charge self‐regulation mechanism that confines the electric field below the air breakdown threshold, and achieves an outstanding charge density of 396.50 µC m−2 ...

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Robust and Tailored 1D/3D Heterojunction for Efficient and Stable Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study successfully established a robust 1D/3D heterojunction, characterized by a stable 1D phase, favorable lattice matching, strong interface binding, and effective defect passivation. The resulting epitaxial perovskite film demonstrates preferential vertical orientation of (100) facets, thereby facilitating carriers’ transport and stress relief.

Genetic predisposition to porto‐sinusoidal vascular disorder: A functional genomic‐based, multigenerational family study

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
A deleterious variant of FCHSD1 results in mTOR pathway overactivation and may cause porto‐sinusoidal vascular disorder (PSVD). The pedigree of the family demonstrated an autosomal dominant disease with variable expressivity. Whole‐genome sequencing and Sanger sequencing both validated the existence of the FCHSD1 variant and the heterozygosity of c ...

Is the adjustable lumbo-peritoneal shunt a valid option for managing symptomatic idiopathic intracranial hypertension? A case report of a multidisciplinary management

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2019
Background: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension is a rare disorder, characterized by raised intracranial pressure with no recognizable cause. Headache, decreased visual acuity and papilledema are the main clinical manifestations.

Synergistic Pyro‐Phototronics and Structural Anisotropy in CsAg2I3/GaN Heterostructures for High‐Performance Polarization‐Sensitive UV Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The development of polarization‐sensitive ultraviolet photodetectors is limited by poor heterojunction quality and low polarization sensitivity. This study integrates synthesized CsAg2I3 single crystals with intrinsic non‐centrosymmetry into van der Waals heterojunction devices, demonstrating pronounced pyro‐phototronic effect.
