Extracardiac Shunt For Nitric Oxide-Resistant Pulmonary Hypertension

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 1998
An interatrial extracardiac shunt was used to manage severe postoperative pulmonary hypertension, refractory to inhaled nitric oxide, in an infant undergoing repair of ventricular septal defect. The rationale, technique, and potential applications of this method are discussed.

Structural vibration control using resistively shunted piezoceramics

Structural Engineering and Mechanics, 2002
Application of piezoceramic materials in actuation and sensing of vibration is of current interest. Potential and more popular applications of piezoceramics are probably in the field of active vibration control. However, the objective of this work is to investigate the effect of shunted piezoceramics as passive vibration control devices when bonded to ...

Resistively-shunted Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x intrinsic Josephson junctions

Physica C: Superconductivity, 2001
Abstract Observation of Shapiro steps is probably the most convincing demonstration of the Josephson effects in superconducting weak links. To observe Shapiro steps in Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+ x intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs), we used side-wall of gold to resistively-shunt these junctions in a conventional mesa structure. In the current–voltage (

Resistively shunted piezocomposites for passive vibration damping

Adaptive Structures Forum, 1996
The results of a theoretical and experimental study of 3-3 coupled resistively shunted piezocomposites are reported. The focus composite material consisted of poled piezoelectric whiskers in an epoxy matrix and was resistively shunted, with the shunt an integral part of the structure. The whiskers were axially poled for 3-3 type coupling.

A shunt method for determining vascular resistance

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 1980
A method is suggested for determining vascular resistance from the blood flow in the test vascular bed and in the shunt tube that is invariable in length and diameter, paralleled to this bed. In conformity with Hagen-Poiselles's equations, the viscosity component dependent on the composition and the temperature of blood should be omitted in the results

Low-Resistance Shunts for Impulse Currents

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1971
In high-voltage technology, plasma physics and power electronics low-ohmic resistors are frequently employed to measure high, rapidly changing currents. Their voltage drop is adversely affected by stray inductances and skin effect. A more complete analysis of low- ohmic tubular type and squirrel cage type resistors including such effects is presented ...

Influence of Resistivity and Shunt Resistance in PV Modules Performance

2010
Nowadays several kinds of silicon wafers can be used for solar cells manufacturing. Bulk resistivity of wafers and shunt resistance of cells are parameters with significant influence in electrical performance. We have sorted out several groups of monocrystalline solar cells attending to them.

Shunt active power filter synthesizing resistive loads

IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2002
The paper discusses the use of a shunt active power filter to compensate for the line current distortion and to improve the power factor. The advantages of the resistive load synthesis over the sinusoidal current synthesis when the filter is used in a system where the voltage is not perfectly sinusoidal are presented.

Arrays of resistively shunted Josephson junctions in magnetic fields

Physical Review B, 1993
A two-dimensional array of resistively shunted Josephson junctions in the presence of both applied external currents and transverse magnetic fields is studied both analytically and numerically. The dynamics of the system is specified by a set of Langevin equations, and leads to a stationary state, which can be described by an effective Hamiltonian. The
