Modification of SI engine and engine performance fueled with hythane
Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Informatics, Environment, Energy and Applications, 2019A 4-cylinder SI engine (1497 cc) was modified for fueling with CNG and H2. The engine performance was investigated and compared with when fueling with gasohol (E10), CNG, and blended fuels of CNG and H2. The blended fuel of 5% (HCNG5) and 10% (HCNG10) of H2 were examined and studied the possibility of using H2 in the SI engine. A test rig with a dynamo

Downsizing of SI Engines by Turbo-Charging
Volume 4: Fatigue and Fracture, Heat Transfer, Internal Combustion Engines, Manufacturing, and Technology and Society, 2006During most of the operating conditions occurring on a vehicle driving cycle, a reciprocating IC engine works at low load and low speed, with poor fuel efficiency. In this regard downsizing appears as a major way of improving fuel consumption of Spark Ignition Engines.

Advanced Engine Misfire Detection for SI-Engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1997<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper presents a system concept for detecting combustion misfire. The relevant research grew out of the more stringent requirements for On-Board Diagnostic systems (OBDII) mandated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), effective as of model year 1997 onward. The system concept is based on evaluation of

Measurement and analysis of engine starts in SI engines
MTZ worldwide, 2006Just like the scientist uses his microscope to study tiny pathogens as the cause of major epidemics, engineers developing vehicle engines have to study a growing number of engine process details. Although modern engine management systems are capable of storing ever more complex models for engine control, checking and coordinating these models is ...

Variable compression in SI engines
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">Downsizing is an effective way to further improve the efficiency of SI engines. To make most of this concept, the compression ratio has to be adjusted during engine operation. Thus, the efficiency disadvantages during part load can be eliminated. A fuel consumption reduction of up to 30% can be realized compared to

Ammonia as a Fuel for SI Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2003<div class="htmlview paragraph">Ammonia is a potential alternative fuel that was indeed put into use in Belgium in World War II due to the extreme shortage of diesel. It has a high heating value per unit volume (1.16 × 107 kJ/m3) and its combustion products can be as or more environment-friendly ...

An Improved Model for SI Engines
ASME 2004 Internal Combustion Engine Division Fall Technical Conference, 2004In this paper an improved mathematical model of spark ignition engines is presented. The model is derived based on a combination of thermodynamically relations and dynamical characteristics of engines. The geometrical parameters of the engine, valves and spark timing, air to fuel ratio, specific fuel consumption and engine operational conditions are ...

International Journal of Exergy, 2008
In this study, exergy (availability) analysis of a Spark Ignition (SI) engine has been performed theoretically during compression, combustion and expansion processes of the engine cycle. For this purpose, a thermodynamic-based engine cycle model is developed without considering the geometric features of fluid motion.
