China‐Russia Partnership: An Axis of Revisionism?

open access: yesAsia &the Pacific Policy Studies, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT I examine the changing nature and characteristics of China‐Russia partnership in the context of their escalating rivalries with the US, using the two‐level explanatory framework. This article begins with an investigation of the causal impact of the shifting global power balance on China‐Russia relations at system‐level level, followed by an ...

Permafrost Thaw Patterning Through Thermal Channelization

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract On some frozen hillslopes, subsurface water above permafrost is routed through regularly spaced, linear features known as water tracks, which are active sources of greenhouse gas release. We test whether water tracks form through thermal channelization, where heat from viscous dissipation in flowpaths deepens the thaw, creating a preferred ...

Integrating predator energetic balance, risk‐taking behaviour and microhabitat in functional response to untangle indirect interactions in a multispecies vertebrate community

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 70-82, January 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Predator–prey interactions in natural communities are complex, with predators often exploiting multiple prey types and generating indirect interactions among them. Ecological theory has traditionally modelled these interactions using functional response models which are

Seasonal timing and preceding moisture regime mediate impacts of heavy rainfall events on High Arctic plant growth

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
Findings indicate that the impact of heavy rainfall events on plant growth in the High Arctic is mediated by seasonal timing and local moisture regimes. Late summer rainfall can extend the growing season for plants experiencing end‐of‐season water‐limitation by delaying onset of senescence.
