Sibling Species in the Sea

Sibling species are common in all major marine groups and habitats. Their abundance reflects both inadequate study of morphological features of living organisms ("pseudo-sibling species") and divergence in habitat, life history, and chemical recognition systems without parallel divergence in morphology.

Ethanol: Larval discrimination between two Drosophila sibling species

Newly hatched larvae of D. melanogaster preferentially migrate to agar containing ethanol, whereas its sibling species D. simulans shows no initial preference. This can be related to the ecological biology of resource utilization in the wild.
