Sibling rivalry: Related bacterial small RNAs and their redundant and non-redundant roles

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2014
Small RNA molecules (sRNAs) are now recognized as key regulators controlling bacterial gene expression, as sRNAs provide a quick and efficient means of positively or negatively altering the expression of specific genes.

Electrolyte‐Dependent Sodium Plating for Anode‐Free Na‐Ion Batteries Studied by Operando Optical Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Anode‐free sodium‐ion batteries are examined using carbonate‐, glyme‐, and localized high‐concentration electrolytes. Distinct sodium plating morphologies are identified by operando optical microscopy, revealing uniform crystalline deposition for glyme‐based systems.

A new common functional coding variant at the DDC gene change renal enzyme activity and modify renal dopamine function. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The intra-renal dopamine (DA) system is highly expressed in the proximal tubule and contributes to Na+ and blood pressure homeostasis, as well as to the development of nephropathy.

Unlocking Plant‐Derived Potential: Regulating Microcrystalline Structure Design of High‐performance Hard Carbon Anodes via Cellulose Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The microcrystalline structure of hard carbon derived from green sandalwood is modulated by controlling the steric hindrance effect of the precursor, thereby significantly enhancing ion diffusion kinetics. When utilized in sodium‐ion batteries, it demonstrates excellent cycle life, exceeding 7000 cycles, as well as superior low‐temperature performance,

Fabrication of Composite Cathode for All‐Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The design of composite cathodes for all‐solid‐state sodium batteries must address three critical challenges—interfacial side reactions, interfacial delamination, and highly tortuous transport pathways. This work outlines structural and interfacial strategies to optimize ion transport and mechanical stability, enabling durable, and high‐performance ...

Boreonectes gen. n., a new genus for the Stictotarsus griseostriatus (De Geer) group of sibling species (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae), with additional karyosystematic data on the group

open access: yesComparative Cytogenetics, 2010
A new genus, Boreonectes gen. n., is erected for the seven S. griseostriatus-group  species  as  well  as eight other American ones listed by Nilsson and Angus (1992) as comprising the Stictotarsus griseostriatus-group as DNA work by

Asymmetries arising from the space-filling nature of vascular networks

open access: yes, 2015
Cardiovascular networks span the body by branching across many generations of vessels. The resulting structure delivers blood over long distances to supply all cells with oxygen via the relatively short-range process of diffusion at the capillary level ...

From Materials to Systems: Challenges and Solutions for Fast‐Charge/Discharge Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically analyzes the key characteristics limiting the fast‐charge/discharge capability of Na‐ion batteries (SIBs) from a multi‐scale perspective encompassing electrode materials, the electrode‐electrolyte interface, and the system. Furthermore, it presents practical solution strategies for the fundamental issues arising at each scale,
