SIFT-CNN: When Convolutional Neural Networks Meet Dense SIFT Descriptors for Image and Sequence Classification

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2022
Despite the success of hand-crafted features in computer visioning for many years, nowadays, this has been replaced by end-to-end learnable features that are extracted from deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs).

A Novel Modified Petroresin Particle (MPRP) With Enhanced Oil–Water Selectivity for Cold Production in Heavy Oil Reservoirs

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel oil–water selective conformance control agent, MPRP, is prepared via hydrophilic grafting and mechanical granulation. MPRP uniformly disperses in water, cohesively expands upon aging, and readily dissolves in the oil phase. During conformance control, it selectively aggregates in water channeling pathways to form effective plugs without ...

CGCI-SIFT: A More Efficient and Compact Representation of Local Descriptor

open access: yesMeasurement Science Review, 2013
This paper proposes a novel invariant local descriptor, a combination of gradient histograms with contrast intensity (CGCI), for image matching and object recognition.

What are Sifted Colimits?

open access: yesTheory and Applications of Categories, 2010
Sifted colimits play an important role in categorical algebra. Apart from their convenient objectwise construction in algebraic categories, they are used in the definition of strongly finitely presentable (or perfectly presentable) objects [see, e.g., \textit{J.~Adámek, J.~Rosický} and \textit{E.~M. Vitale}, Algebraic theories.

Volatile Relay Biosensing and Mobile Phone Imaging for Detection of Influenza Virus

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Detection of volatile organic compounds is performed via a coupled enzymatic assay with mobile phone detection of the signal. Specific application demonstrated herein is the detection of influenza virus, across multiple levels of biological complexity, up to patient‐derived samples.

Anatomy of the SIFT Method

open access: yesImage Processing On Line, 2014
This article presents a detailed description and implementation of the Scale Invariant FeatureTransform (SIFT), a popular image matching algorithm. This work contributes to a detaileddissection of SIFT’s complex chain of transformations and to a careful presentation of each ofits design parameters.

Charge‐Tunable Coacervate Micelles for Separator Engineering in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A separator engineering strategy based on charge‐tunable complex coacervate core micelles (C3Ms) is presented to form an ion‐selective layer regulating polysulfide transport in Li–S batteries. The micelles enable uniform adsorption onto commercial polypropylene separators and infiltration throughout the internal pore network, suppressing polysulfide ...

Comparative Analysis of Keypoint Detection Performance in SIFT Implementations on Small-Scale Image Datasets

open access: yesJournal of Innovation Information Technology and Application
Scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) is widely used as an image local feature extraction method because of its invariance to rotation, scale, and illumination change. SIFT has been implemented in different program libraries.

Make‐Use‐Remake: Toward Indefinite Low‐Temperature Material Loops

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a regenerable materials platform built from microparticles bound by a temperature‐responsive polymer shell, enabling strong, processable structures from diverse feedstocks. The material is shaped at low temperatures (80°C) using common manufacturing methods and reprocessed repeatedly in the presence of water, demonstrating stable ...
