Integrated optical sigma‐delta modulators

Optical Engineering, 1996
Abstract : Modern avionics equipment, such as super resolution direction-finding systems, now require resolutions on the order of 20 to 22 bits. Oversampled analog-to-digital converter architectures offer a means of exchanging resolution in time for that in amplitude and represent an attractive approach to implementing precision converters without the ...

Sigma–Delta Modulation

2012
The sigma-delta modulator is a specific algorithm to convert low-bandwidth signals into a digital data stream. In the first section the effects of oversampling are described both for the analog-to-digital converter as well as for the analog-to-digital converter.

MASH Sigma-Delta Modulators

2018
So far only the possibility of creating stable, high-order Sigma-Delta modulators through a careful loop architecture choice and/or using multi-bit quantization has been considered. As demonstrated in previous chapters, although this approach can yield effective high-order loop designs, it also results in mathematically intensive (the Schreier’s ...

Poly-phase sigma-delta modulation

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Analog and Digital Signal Processing, 1997
A new circuit is described for the implementation of analog sigma-delta modulation. It is based upon the use of a poly-phase sampler with the aim of obtaining high over-sampling ratios at low clock frequencies. A detailed analysis of second-order systems is made to predict its performance.

A laboratory sigma-delta modulator

Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, 1991
A simple method of analysing the limit-cycling behaviour of a sigma-delta modulator is introduced which is used to determine the performance of a system designed specifically for student use. The analysis is extended to predict the closed-loop performance of the modulator.

Choice of Sigma-Delta Modulation

2012
This chapter presents a comparative study of all-digital ΣΔM structures as part of the multi-standard frequency synthesizer [1]. As discussed previously, ΣΔ modulation is used to enable fractional frequency synthesis by modulating a sequence of division values with a desired fractional mean and providing the added advantage of noise shaping. It is also

Efficient Trellis Sigma-Delta Modulation

2011
In chapter eight, an efficient derivative of the Trellis sigma-delta modulator, called the Efficient Trellis sigma-delta modulator, is introduced. Instead of exploring 2 N solutions in parallel, only M solutions out of the possible 2 N are tracked. This is possible since only a fraction of all the 2 N solutions contributes to the final output.

Multirate-multibit sigma-delta modulators

2000 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Emerging Technologies for the 21st Century. Proceedings (IEEE Cat No.00CH36353), 2002
A multirate architecture for implementation of SD modulator is proposed in this paper. The performance of the called MM (multirate-multibit) SD modulator is the same that a conventional multibit SD modulator working at the clock rate of the first integrator, but the ADC in the forward path is replaced by an increase at the clock rate of the second ...

Basics of Sigma-Delta Modulation

2011
This chapter provides a basic introduction to sigma-delta modulation in general. It first discusses the use of sigma-delta modulation for analog-to-digital, digital-to-digital, and digital-to-analog conversion, after which the most popular sigma-delta structures are presented. A procedure for basic linear modeling of sigma-delta modulators is presented

NTF-Improved Delta-Sigma Modulation Supported 65536 QAM Signal for Mobile Fronthaul

Journal of Lightwave Technology
In this article, a support 65536 QAM signal mobile fronthaul (MFH) architecture based on the noise transfer function (NTF)-improved delta-sigma modulation (DSM) was proposed and demonstrated by experiment. In the NTF-improved DSM, the extended Lee's rule
