Outcome After Surgery for Colon Cancer in a National Cohort of Patients With and Without Inflammatory Bowel Disease

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
This national cohort study of patients surgically resected for colon cancer, during 2007–2021, compares survival outcomes of patients with and without inflammatory bowel diseases. The main results were that overall survival, recurrence‐free survival and cancer‐specific survival were lower in patients with IBD.

State‐dependent regulation of the Kv7.2 channel voltage sensor by QO‐58

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose KV7(KCNQ) potassium channels are key modulators of neuronal excitability, and promising targets for development of drugs for epilepsy and pain. We investigated a candidate KV7 drug, QO‐58, which has been previously described but has an unclear mechanism of action.

New biosensors and transgenic mice for multiplex cGMP imaging

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) is a versatile second messenger that is important for human (patho‐)physiology and pharmacotherapy. Live‐cell imaging of cGMP with biosensors allows to elucidate its spatiotemporal dynamics in real time under close‐to‐native conditions. However, to monitor two separate cGMP pools or cGMP/cAMP

RNA Analysis Uncovers Pathogenic PARN Variant in Dyskeratosis Congenita

open access: yesClinical Genetics, EarlyView.
Using WGS and RNA analysis, we identified a branch point‐disrupting variant in the PARN gene and elucidated its pathogenic molecular mechanism in a child with atypical dyskeratosis congenita presentation. ABSTRACT Dyskeratosis congenita (DC) is a rare genetic disorder caused by impaired telomere maintenance, leading to diverse clinical manifestations ...

Experimental Disentangling of the Effects of Initial Population Size and Resource Availability on Weevil Population Dynamics

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Initial population size and resource availability are key factors regulating population dynamics, with growth rates typically declining as populations increase but rising with greater resources. In maize weevils, however, we found an unexpected negative effect of resource availability on intrinsic growth rates, contrary to conventional expectations. We
