Quantitative criteria characterizing the time change pattern of total lipid-peroxidation carbonyls
The present study introduced for the first time a sigmoidal function regarding the change in lipid-peroxidation carbonyls over time, providing a number of helpful kinetic parameters to more reliably evaluate the secondary oxidation of lipid systems.

The focus of this work is to computationally obtain an optimized neural network (NN) model to predict battery average Nusselt number (Nuavg) data using four activations functions. The battery Nuavg is highly nonlinear as reported in the literature, which

High levels for noise and a loss of true signal make the quantitative interpretation of nuclear medicine (NM) images difficult. An application of profile optimization using a sigmoidal function in this study was used to acquire the NM images with high ...

A Novel Machine Learning Approach for Detection of Coronary Artery Disease Using Reduced Non-linear and Chaos Features [PDF]
In this research paper, authors present an automated system in this paper that integrates a ranking technique with Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Generalized Discriminant Analysis (GDA) and a 1-Norm Bidirectional Extreme Learning Machine (1-NBELM ...

Sigmoid neural transfer function realized by percolation
An experiment using the phenomenon of percolation has been conducted to demonstrate the implementation of neural functionality (summing and sigmoid transfer). A simple analog approximation to digital percolation is implemented. The device consists of a piece of amorphous silicon with stochastic bit-stream optical inputs, in which a current percolating ...

Approximation by Superpositions of a Sigmoidal Function
We generalize a result of B. Gao and Y. Xu [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 178 (1993) 221–226] concerning the approximation of functions of bounded variation by linear combinations of a fixed sigmoidal function to the class of functions of bounded f-variation. Also, in the case of one variable, a proposition of A. R. Barron [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 36 (1993) 930–

Spatial Scale Dependence of Tropical Cyclone Damage Function: Evidence From the Mainland of China
Tropical cyclone (TC) damage function (DF) is widely used to model TC‐event level damage and thus assess the TC risk for a country or region. The scalability of these DFs at more localized scales, such as the province scale, has not been systematically ...

Sigmoidal dynamics of macro-financial leverage
Logistic sigmoids due to their flexibility seem to be natural candidates for modelling macrofinancial leverage behavior. The sigmoidal leverage transition towards its stationary value, which was driven by the yield spreads, could have replicated the ...
