Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Pitfalls in the Detection of Hearing Loss via Otoacoustic Emissions

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) are currently used as a valuable audiological test or as a hearing screening tool. There are many commercially available OAE recording systems that are used both for clinical practice and for research.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Two-Path Conventional Neural Network Based Signal-to-Noise Ratio Evaluation for UAV Communication Link

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
With the development of information technology, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become an indispensable and important part of daily life and they have brought great convenience to life. Evaluating the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of UAV communication

Sagnac Interferometer Enhanced Particle Tracking in Optical Tweezers

open access: yes, 2010
A setup is proposed to enhance tracking of very small particles, by using optical tweezers embedded within a Sagnac interferometer. The achievable signal-to-noise ratio is shown to be enhanced over that for a standard optical tweezers setup.

Detection of amplitude modulation with squeezed light for sensitivity beyond the shot-noise limit [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
An improvement in precision beyond the limit set by the vacuum-state or zero-point fluctuations of the electromagnetic field is reported for the detection of amplitude modulation encoded on a weak signal beam. The improvement is achieved by employing the

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

The Influence of the Signal-to-Noise Ratio upon Radio Occultation Retrievals

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
We study the dependence of radio occultation (RO) inversion statistics on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). We use observations from four missions: COSMIC, COSMIC-2, METOP-B, and Spire.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio in Squeezed-Light Laser Radar

open access: yes, 2009
The formalism for computing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for laser radar is reviewed and applied to the tasks of target detection, direction-finding, and phase change estimation with squeezed light.

Weak value amplification in a shot-noise limited interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We study the weak-value amplification (WVA) in a phase measurement with an optical interferometer in which shot noise limits the sensitivity. We compute the signal and the shot noise including the full-order interaction terms of the WVA, and show that ...
