Signal and background separation

Physical Review E, 1999
In many areas of research the measured spectra consist of a collection of "peaks"--the sought-for signals--which sit on top of an unknown background. The subtraction of the background in a spectrum has been the subject of many investigations and different techniques, varying from filtering to fitting polynomial functions, have been developed.

Phase separation in immune signalling

Nature Reviews Immunology, 2021
Immune signalling pathways convert pathogenic stimuli into cytosolic events that lead to the resolution of infection. Upon ligand engagement, immune receptors together with their downstream adaptors and effectors undergo substantial conformational changes and spatial reorganization. During this process, nanometre-to-micrometre-sized signalling clusters

Multi-channel signal separation

1996 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Conference Proceedings, 2002
The separation of independent sources from mixed observed data is a fundamental and challenging problem. In many practical situations, observations may be modelled as linear mixtures of a number of source signals, i.e. a linear multi-input multi-output system.

A separation signal for heterogeneous networks

2013 51st Annual Allerton Conference on Communication, Control, and Computing (Allerton), 2013
Organizing a large-scale, heterogeneous network of agents into clusters based on the agents' class is a useful preprocessing step for cooperative tasks, where agents with the same capabilities need to be in the same location to cooperatively solve a task.

Separation of a mixture of chaotic signals

1996 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Conference Proceedings, 2002
A new technique is specifically devised to separate chaotic signals. In this approach, the authors reconstruct the trajectory of the mixture in an embedding space. The correlation characteristics of the trajectory in each dimension of the embedding space are then determined and used to reduce the separation problem into an eigen-problem that can be ...
