Signalized Intersections and Networks

2013
Signalized intersections operate with the assistance of a traffic signal, and they cyclically assign the right-of-way to a movement or combination of movements. Ideally, the amount of time assigned to each combination of movements minimizes travel time and delay and/or the number of stops in the network and allocates capacity optimally.

Pedestrian crash estimation models for signalized intersections

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2011
The focus of this paper is twofold: (1) to examine the non-linear relationship between pedestrian crashes and predictor variables such as demographic characteristics (population and household units), socio-economic characteristics (mean income and total employment), land use characteristics, road network characteristics (the number of lanes, speed ...

Trajectory-Based Measurement of Signalized Intersection Capacity

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2019
Capacities of road intersections are a limiting factor and crucial for the performance of road networks. Therefore, for purposes of intersection design and of optimal signal timing, numerous methodologies have been proposed to either estimate or directly measure the capacity of single movements at road intersections.

Queuing Optimization of Signalized Intersections

1996
Previous research regarding optimization of isolated intersections was carried out in the past as well as in recent years, yet, optimization techniques implemented on the signal controller’s level are very primitive and unsatisfying. Three major obstacles prevent the controller from adapting programs to varying traffic conditions: 1.

U-Turns at Signalized Intersections

2004
The objectives of the study were to examine the safety consequences from the installation of U-turns at signalized intersections in Kentucky and to develop a set of guidelines for using this alternative in the future. The literature review indicated that the use of U-turns is very effective in reducing delays as well as crash rates.

Simulation Program for Signalized Intersection

Journal of the Technical Councils of ASCE, 1979
The development of a computer simulation model to approximate the interactions of those traffic elements present at a signalized intersection is presented. The simulation model is designed as a tool for the engineer or analyst to predict the behavior of a signalized intersection under different operational conditions. GASP IV is the simulation language

Delay at signal-controlled intersections

1974
As has been briefly mentioned in chapter 36, the delay to vehicles on a traffic-signal approach has been investigated by F. V. Webster and reported in Road Research Technical Paper 39. By a combination of queueing theory and digital computer simulation it has been shown that the average delay per vehicle on a particular intersection arm is given by
