Modeling Pedestrian Crossing Behavior and Safety at Signalized Intersections

open access: yes, 2018
Pedestrian noncompliance behavior is one of the most critical causes of pedestrian involved traffic crashes at intersections in India. Thus, the objectives of this study are to examine how various factors affect pedestrian crossing behavior and to ...

Electrostatic Superlattices Beyond 1:1 Stoichiometry

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer‐mediated charge regulation drives two hierarchical routes to higher‐stoichiometry nanoparticle superlattices. Tuning the polymer's molecular weight promotes progressive interstitial filling, transforming ZnS into the fully occupied CaF2${\rm CaF}_2$ lattice. Exchanging polymer assignment between large and small nanoparticles instead breaks CsCl

Traffic operations and safety condition analysis of signalized intersections

open access: yesAl-Qadisiyah Journal for Engineering Science
When reliable crash data is unavailable, Surrogate Safety Measures (SSMs) become valuable tools for traffic safety research. This study assesses traffic safety at signalized intersections, explicitly examining how traffic operations such as stopped delay

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Graded Metallopolymer Structures with Shape‐Memory Abilities via DLP‐Based 3D‐Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the digital light processing (DLP) based 3D printing of graded metallopolymers featuring shape‐memory abilities. The permanent shape can be recovered in two distinct steps with excellent rates. The obtained graded prints range from simple rod‐like structures to complex hollow materials.

In Situ Magnetic Ordering and Microfabrication of Liquid Crystal Networks with Discretized Alignment

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Miniaturizing liquid crystal network actuators typically demands costly laser writing or digital light processing. A low‐cost photolithography platform couples rotating photomasks with a Halbach magnetic array to discretize in‐plane molecular alignment down to 50 µm, producing programmable, light‐responsive grippers, checkerboards, and origami‐inspired

Hopping‐Mediated Zero‐Bias Photocharge Retention in Solution‐Processed Van Der Waals Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid–liquid interface assembly enables the fabrication of solution‐processed MoS2 and WSe2 centimeter‐scale, nanometer‐thick type‐II heterostructures on paper. Interfacial charge separation and hopping‐limited recombination produce rectification and persistent photocharge retention at zero bias.
