Differential Signals-of-Opportunity Timing Back-Up Method on VHF Band for Critical Infrastructures

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper describes a back-up method for GNSS-free timing for power lines which is currently achieved using fibre links. The method is based on software-defined-radio technologies for monitoring low-frequency signals of opportunity (SoOp) serving as an ...

ANALYTICAL KIRCHHOFF SOLUTIONS (AKS) AND NUMERICAL KIRCHHOFF APPROACH (NKA) FOR FIRST-PRINCIPLE CALCULATIONS OF COHERENT WAVES AND INCOHERENT WAVES AT P BAND AND L BAND IN SIGNALS OF OPPORTUNITY (SOOP) [PDF]

open access: yesProgress In Electromagnetics Research, 2021
In this paper, we derived Analytical Kirchhoff Solutions (AKS) for bistatic scattering near the specular directions at P band and L band for applications in Signals of Opportunity (SoOp). The land surface profiles are divided into three scales: microwave

Sensing Lunar Dust Density Using Radio Science Signals of Opportunity

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Previous lunar missions, such as Surveyor, Apollo, and the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE), have played a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of the lunar exosphere’s dynamics and its relationship with solar wind flux.

Wetland monitoring with Global Navigation Satellite System reflectometry. [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Space Sci, 2017
Abstract Information about wetland dynamics remains a major missing gap in characterizing, understanding, and projecting changes in atmospheric methane and terrestrial water storage. A review of current satellite methods to delineate and monitor wetland change shows some recent advances, but much improved sensing technologies are still needed for ...

Ambiguity function analysis of iridium burst transmissions for opportunistic navigation

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 59, Issue 21, November 2023., 2023
The objective of this work is to investigate the Ambiguity Function (AF) characterization of the Iridium L‐band downlink burst transmissions under single burst and multiband multi‐burst mode to demonstrate its suitability and capability as Signal of OPportunity (SoOP) for navigation.

The Impact of Zooplankton Calcifiers on the Marine Carbon Cycle

open access: yesGlobal Biogeochemical Cycles, Volume 37, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Shelled pteropods and planktic foraminifers are calcifying zooplankton that contribute to the biological carbon pump via the sinking of their calcareous shells. However, their importance for regional and global plankton biomass and carbon fluxes is not well understood.

Inorganic Carbon Transport and Dynamics in the Florida Straits

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 127, Issue 10, October 2022., 2022
Abstract Ocean heat and carbon are transported through the Florida Straits, contributing to the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, and playing an important role in climate. Insufficient observations of carbonate chemistry within the Florida Straits have limited our understanding of ocean acidification within this region.

Designing Sustainable Recovery Network of End‐of‐Life Product during the COVID‐19 Pandemic: A Real and Applied Case Study

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
One of the most important aspects of supply chain management (SCM) is the recovery network (RN), which covers all activities associated with return products (such as collection, recovery, repair, recycling, and waste disposal). Our goal in this paper is to provide a new mathematical model of sustainable end‐of‐life management (SEOLM) during the COVID ...

Reduced Ocean Carbon Sink in the South and Central North Sea (2014–2018) Revealed From FerryBox Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 48, Issue 11, 16 June 2021., 2021
Abstract Surface seawater carbon dioxide partial pressure (pCO2) in the south‐central North Sea was measured between 2014 and 2018 using FerryBox‐integrated membrane sensors on ships‐of‐opportunity. Average annual pCO2 variability was biologically controlled, with thermal effects modulating its amplitude.
