3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

Subshifts as Models for MSO Logic

open access: yes, 2013
We study the Monadic Second Order (MSO) Hierarchy over colourings of the discrete plane, and draw links between classes of formula and classes of subshifts.

Analysis of surface waves generated on subwavelength-structured silver films [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to analyse the physical-chemical surface properties of subwavlength structured silver films and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) numerical simulations of the optical response of these structures to plane ...

Arm‐Length‐Controlled CsPbBr3 Nanocrystals for Tunable Optical and Assembly Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, the synthesis parameters that dictate the formation of armed CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are described, and routes enabling precise control over arm length are proposed. Direct links between morphology and optoelectronic behavior are established.

Terrestrial and fluvial carbon fluxes in a tropical watershed: Nyong basin, Cameroon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Nyong watershed, with an area of 27 800 km2 and a mean annual discharge of 390 m3 s−1, is the second largest river in Cameroon. The Nyong watershed serves as an outstanding study area for the examination of carbon fluxes in humid tropical ...

Optical Manipulation of Multiferroic Phases in BiFeO3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
At the strain‐driven morphotropic phase boundary, optical control over the multiferroic rhombohedral and tetragonal phase mixture is demonstrated using above‐bandgap light illumination. The photoinduced charge carriers modify the electrostatic environment and induce the conversion into a single tetragonal phase.

Collective character of spin excitations in a system of Mn$^{2+}$ spins coupled to a two-dimensional electron gas

open access: yes, 2003
We have studied the low energy spin excitations in n-type CdMnTe based dilute magnetic semiconductor quantum wells. For magnetic fields for which the energies for the excitation of free carriers and Mn spins are almost identical an anomalously large ...

Simultaneous H2O:O2 Co‐Reactant Pulsing for Functional Property Control of Atomic Layer Deposited ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3 Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simultaneous H2O:O2 co‐pulsing in thermal ALD modulates surface hydroxylation to engineer nanovoids and properties in ZnO, TiO2, and Al2O3. The ligand‑dependent pathway promotes c‑axis‑textured ZnO, reduced‑crystallinity yet Ti4+‑preserved TiO2, and highly transparent, hydrophilic Al2O3, while lowering the refractive indices.

Envelope tomography of long-period variable stars: I. The Schwarzschild mechanism and the Balmer emission lines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper is the first one in a series devoted to the study of the dynamics of the atmospheres of long-period variable stars. Results from a two-month-long monitoring of the Mira variables RT Cyg and X Oph around maximum light with the ELODIE ...
