Modelling distributions of significant wave height
Coastal Engineering, 2000Abstract The paper discusses the use of distribution functions in the description of the long-term behaviour of significant wave height data. It is shown by an example that the usual goodness-of-fit diagnostics do not ensure correct predictions of return values based on arbitrary statistical models.

Spatio‐temporal statistical modelling of significant wave height
AbstractIn this paper, we construct a homogeneous spatio‐temporal model to describe the variability of significant wave height over small regions of the sea and over short periods of time. Then, the model is extended to a non‐homogeneous one that is valid over larger areas of the sea and for time periods of up to 10 h.

Encounter Probability of Significant Wave Height [PDF]
The determination of the design wave height (often given as the significant wave height) is usually based on statistical analysis of long-term extreme wave height measurement or hindcast. The result of such extreme wave height analysis is often given as the design wave height corresponding to a chosen return period.
