Zone electrophoresis in silica gel and silica paste

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1960
Abstract Silica gel and silica paste have been used as anticonvection media in zone electrophoresis. Rapid methods for preparing gels and pastes containing the appropriate electrophoretic buffer, and their use in zone electrophoresis, are given.

Toxicity of Silica Nanomaterials: Zeolites, Mesoporous Silica, and Amorphous Silica Nanoparticles

2010
Publisher Summary In this chapter, an overview of the toxicity of silica-based nanomaterials is presented. Porous materials, such as crystalline, microporous zeolites, and mesoporous silica materials, have two nanoscale aspects: nanoscale pores that provide large internal surface areas and nanoscale crystal or particle sizes that may lead to unique ...

Silica [PDF]

open access: possible
The element silicon (Si) is used by all living organisms either in molecular processes or in the formation of the mineral silica. The mineral is found in single cell organisms (e.g. radiolarian, diatoms, dinoflagellates and algae) through molluscs (e.g. limpets) to higher plants and primitive animals such as sponges.
