Reaction-Spun Transparent Silica Aerogel Fibers
ACS Nano, 2020Aerogel fibers, the simultaneous embodiment of aerogel 3D network and fibrous geometry, have shown great advantages over natural and synthetic fibers in thermal insulation. However, as a fast gelation to ensure aerogel fiber spinning generally induces rapid local clustering of precursor particles (i.e., phase separation) and unavoidably results in ...

Organofunctional silica aerogels
Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1997Organically modified silica aerogels were prepared from mixtures of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and organofunctional alkoxysilanes RSi(OMe)3 with R = mercaptopropyl, diphenylphosphinoethyl and chloropropyl. The base catalyzed hydrolysis and condensation reactions, followed by supercritical drying with liquid carbon dioxide were investigated.

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2015
Aerogels based on interpenetrated cellulose-silica networks were prepared and characterised. Wet coagulated cellulose was impregnated with silica phase, polyethoxydisiloxane, using two methods: (i) molecular diffusion and (ii) forced flow induced by pressure difference.

Additive manufacturing of silica aerogels
Nature, 2020Owing to their ultralow thermal conductivity and open pore structure1-3, silica aerogels are widely used in thermal insulation4,5, catalysis6, physics7,8, environmental remediation6,9, optical devices10 and hypervelocity particle capture11. Thermal insulation is by far the largest market for silica aerogels, which are ideal materials when space is ...
