Physicochemical and remineralisation properties of calcium silicate and glass ionomer cements applied in simulated caries‐affected dentine

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Oral Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Calcium silicate‐based and glass ionomer cements are often used in caries‐affected dentine. This study investigated the remineralising and physicochemical properties of two calcium silicates and a glass ionomer cement. Human molars with Class I cavities were subjected to pH cycling to simulate caries lesions.

Blue Covarine in Toothpaste: A Comprehensive Review and Meta Analysis of Efficacy, Safety, and Potential Effects

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Hygiene, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The pursuit of whiter teeth has led to the innovation of various colour enhancement products, including toothpaste formulations containing blue covarine. This systematic review and meta‐analysis assesses their efficacy and safety. Objectives To evaluate the efficacy of blue covarine‐containing toothpaste in colour enhancement and ...

Microspherules Formed by Lightning Strikes

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Natural microspherules are formed by high‐temperature processes and are present throughout the geologic record to the present day. We report the discovery of large numbers of microspherules recovered from a rock pavement in the Pilbara region, Western Australia.

Whole genome sequencing of historical specimens from the world's largest fungal collection yields high‐quality assemblies

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary High‐throughput molecular studies of museum specimens (museomics) have great potential in biodiversity research, but fungal historical collections have scarcely been examined, leading to no comprehensive methodological assessments. Here we present a whole genome sequencing (WGS) project conducted at the Fungarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens ...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal families and exploration‐based guilds exhibit distinct responses to long‐term N, P and K deficiencies and imbalances

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary Many agroecosystems face nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) or potassium (K) deficiencies due to imbalanced or insufficient nutrient replenishment after biomass harvest. How this affects the symbiosis between plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and the abundance of exploration‐based AMF guilds (rhizophilic, edaphophilic and ancestral ...

Control of drying shrinkage of magnesium silicate hydrate gel cements

open access: yes, 2016
Cracks were observed when the magnesium silicate hydrate gel cement (prepared by 40% MgO/60% silica fume) was dried. This drying cracking is believed to be caused when unbound water evaporates from the binder.
