Synthesis of Organofunctionalized Silica Gel from Organostannylated Silica Gel and Chlorosilane

open access: yesJournal of the Ceramic Society of Japan, 1998
Tri- and dibutylstannylated silica gels were prepared from water glass and tri- and dibutyltinoxide, respectively. Organofunctionalized silica gels were readily formed via reaction between the tri- and dibutylstannylated silica gels and acetoxyethyldimethylchlorosilane or acetoxyethylmethyl-dichlorosilane with the elimination of organotin groups.

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...
