The fluxing effect of fluorine at magmatic temperatures (600-800 °C): A scanning calorimetric study [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The effect of F on the glass transition behavior of albite, diopside, and four other silicate melts has been investigated using scanning calorimetry. The addition of F to all silicate melts investigated results in a strong, nonlinear decrease of the ...

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Origin of the ungrouped achondrite NWA 4518: mineralogy and geochemistry of FeNi-metal [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Ungrouped achondrite NWA 4518 is an ultramafic breccia with abundant siderophile rich IIA-like metal. Its silicate chemistry is similar to that of WINs, HEDs, and silicate inclusions of IIE irons.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Photoluminescence processes in τ-phase Ba1.3Ca0.7-x-ySiO4:xDy3+/yTb3+ phosphors for solid-state lighting

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2022
The τ-phase Ba1.3Ca0.7-x-ySiO4:xDy3+/yTb3+ phosphors co-doped with Dy3+ (x = 0.03) and Tb3+ (y = 0.01–0.05) trivalent rare-earth ions were prepared by the gel-combustion method.

AGN Dusty Tori as a Clumpy Two-Phase Medium: The 10 Micron Silicate Feature

open access: yes, 2011
We investigated the emission of active galactic nuclei dusty tori in the infrared domain, with a focus on the 10 micron silicate feature. We modeled the dusty torus as a clumpy two-phase medium with high-density clumps and a low-density medium filling ...

A Survey of 10-Micron Silicate Emission from Dust around Young Sun-Like Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We obtained low resolution (R = 100) mid-infrared (8-13 micron wavelengths) spectra of 8 nearby young main sequence stars with the Keck 1 telescope and Long-Wavelength Spectrometer (LWS) to search for 10 micron silicate (Si-O stretch) emission from ...

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

EMPIRICAL EQUATION FOR PREDICTING FRACTURE FREQUENCY OF CARBONATE AND SILICATE ROCKS USING P-WAVE VELOCITY

open access: yesRudarsko-geološko-naftni Zbornik
Fracture frequency (FF) is necessary for fracture quantification in rock mass classification systems and plays an important role in the mechanical properties of rock mass.

SPITZER IRS spectra of Virgo early type galaxies: detection of stellar silicate emission

open access: yes, 2006
We present high signal to noise ratio Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph observations of 17 Virgo early-type galaxies. The galaxies were selected from those that define the colour-magnitude relation of the cluster, with the aim of detecting the silicate ...
