Minerals which are not silicates have been grouped together in this chapter for the description of their properties. However, unlike the silicates, the crystal structures and chemical variation of members of the group are not easily related to mineralogical properties and the mode of occurrence. Even subdivision of the group into transparent and opaque

Proteins in mesoporous silicates.
Angewandte Chemie, 2008Mesoporous silicates (MPS) have an ordered pore structure with dimensions comparable to many biological molecules. They have been extensively explored as supports for proteins and enzymes in biocatalytic applications. Since their initial discovery, novel

Aqueous Silicic Acid, Silicates and Silicate Complexes
1978The paper aims at giving a brief review of the aqueous chemistry of silicic acid, silicates and silicate complexes. In particular, problems concerning equilibria and structures are discussed. In addition geochemical data of silicon and silicon distribution on the earth crust will be briefly presented.

Viscosity of liquid silica, silicates and alumino-silicates
Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1982Viscosity measurements are reported for amorphous silica and liquids belonging to the systems SiO2-M, SiO2-Al2O3-M, where M is an alkali-earth metal oxide, MnO, or alumina, and the systems SiO2-“FeO”, SiO2-FeO-Fe2O3-CaO, and SiO2-Al2O3-N, where N = Na2O or K2O.

Derivatives of silicic acids as model compounds for silicates
Physics and Chemistry of Minerals, 1988Silicon-29 chemical shifts of methyl, ethyl, chloro and trimethylsilyl derivatives of silicic acids are compared to those of silicic acid anions found in aqueous solutions. Although the chemical shifts of the silicate anions vary with pH and concentration, a good correlation is obtained for the chloro and alkoxi derivatives.

Lattice model of polymer melt intercalation in organically-modified layered silicates
, 1997A mean-field, lattice-based model of polymer melt intercalation in organically-modified mica-type silicates (OLS) has been developed. In general, an interplay of entropic and energetic factors determines the outcome of polymer intercalation.
