The rapid progress of the past 20 years in silicon radiation detectors is reviewed. The availability of silicon as an almost ideal semiconductor material is one of the main reasons for this progress. The well-defined properties of the silicon-silicon dioxide interface allowed the development of detector structures beyond the structure of a classical ...

Detector capacitance of silicon microstrip detector
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1992Abstract A capacitance property of a silicon microstrip detector was investigated with a solid state device simulator PISCES II-B. Special attention was paid to the electrode configuration and the radiation effect on the capacitance property.

The article is an introduction to the physics and technology of silicon microstrip particles detectors. Properties of silicon and of a p-n junction, fundamental for the description of the operating principles of these detectors, are presented. A detailed discussion of physical processes in silicon, leading to the formation of the signal follows the ...

A silicon ultraviolet detector
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1990Abstract A selective photodetector for ultraviolet light has been developed. The detector consists of an integrated combination of a selective photodiode and an interference filter. The doping profile of the diode was devised in such a way that a sharp potential barrier for holes appears at a depth of about 100 nm.

Robust tracking is an essential tool to address the full range of physics which can be accessed at LHC. The CMS Collaboration has chosen the detector technology for the Si-licon Strip tracking system. Over the last few years considerable progress has been made in the understanding of the operation of silicon strip detector in the harsh environment of ...

The CDFII silicon detector consists of 8 layers of double-sided silicon micro-strip sensors totalling 722,432 readout channels, making it one of the largest silicon detectors in present use by an HEP experiment. After two years of data taking, we report on our experience operating the complex device.

Thin epitaxial silicon detectors
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 1990Abstract Manufacturing procedures of thin epitaxial surface barriers will be given. Some improvements has been obtained: larger areas, lower leakage currents and better resolutions. New planar epitaxial d E d X detectors, made in a collaboration work with Enertec-Intertechnique, and a new application of these thin planar diodes to EXAFS ...

Silicon radiation detectors (Review)
Instruments and Experimental Techniques, 2007The modern status of the field of development of silicon detectors of charged particles and x/γ rays is considered. The types and characteristics of spectrometric detectors are briefly described; the predominant attention is given to track devices. The results of studies of the radiation resistance of silicon detectors are presented.
