Silicon nanophotonics

2012
AbstractSilicon nanophotonics deals with unique luminescence properties of silicon nanocrystals sized approximately from one to several nanometers. These nanocrystals have the potential to become active medium in future light-emitting devices or even in a silicon laser.

Advances in Silicon Nanophotonics

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2014
Silicon nanophotonics is emerging as an important platform for a variety of applications. While several silicon photonic devices have been fabricated the main problem stands with an efficient silicon light source. In this manuscript we briefly review recent advances in the field focusing, as an example, to two main cases: silicon nanowires and photonic

Silicon Nanophotonic Waveguide and Coupling

2008 IEEE PhotonicsGlobal@Singapore, 2008
Modal characterization of silicon nanophotonic waveguide and its coupling to an optical fiber are investigated, which include: 1) a full-vectorial modal analysis of silicon nanophotonic waveguide and a TM-pass nanophotonic polarizer based on a simple taper structure; 2) a superlens based coupling structure between nanophotonic waveguide and singlemode ...

3C Silicon Carbide Nanophotonics

Frontiers in Optics 2016, 2016
The development of novel photonic materials can offer new capabilities for non-linear and quantum optics. We demonstrate key components for a photonic platform in 3C-SiC, including high-confinement waveguides, grating couplers and high-Q resonators.

Nonreciprocal silicon-organic nanophotonic structures

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
We present a setup to measure the nonreciprocal magneto-optical phase shift in air and polymer cladded silicon on insulator waveguides. A high sensitivity could be achieved for the setup sufficient to determine the effect produced by silicon and silica.

Nanophotonic biosensors in silicon-on-insulator

2013 Transducers & Eurosensors XXVII: The 17th International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems (TRANSDUCERS & EUROSENSORS XXVII), 2013
In this paper, two recent advances in silicon ring resonator biosensors are presented. First, we address the problem that due to the high index contrast, small deviations from perfect symmetry lift the degeneracy of the normal resonator mode. This severely deteriorates the quality of the output signal.

Direct observation of electromagnetic near field in silicon nanophotonics devices using Scanning Thermal Microscopy (SThM) technique

open access: yes, 2014
We observe directly for the first time optical near field in silicon nanophotonics devices with nanoscale resolution using near field scanning thermal microscopy and demonstrated its advantage over the NSOM technique.

Hybrid silicon-ferroelectric oxide platform for tunable nanophotonics on silicon

2016 18th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (ICTON), 2016
In this communication, we present strategies to implement novel or enhanced optoelectronic functionalities on silicon via the monolithic integration of functional oxides as active layers for nanophotonic devices. We focus on the use of ferroelectric oxides with naturally strong electro-optical coefficients such as BaTiO 3 (BTO) on SOI for the ...
