A Colloidal Quantum Dot Thermistor and Bolometer

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces colloidal quantum dot thermistors employing a potential barrier structure to tune the activation energy of transport and hence the temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Upon integration with plasmonic absorbers, the CQD‐based bolometer device enables room‐temperature wavelength‐selective photodetection across the mid‐ to ...

Polarization-Independent Mode-Evolution-Based Coupler for the Silicon-on-Insulator Platform

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
We demonstrate a polarization-independent mode-evolution-based coupler for the silicon-on-insulator platform. The measured coupler has negligible insertion loss over a bandwidth of about 100 nm, i.e., from 1500 to 1600 nm.

Silicon nanophotonics using deep-UV lithography [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of SPIE, 2006
We will present recent progress in several devices based on silicon-on-insulator nanophotonics using deep-UV lithography. We will report on high efficiency grating couplers, ultra-compact arrayed waveguide gratings and ring-resonator based biosensors.

Morphology‐Controlled Silica Nanoparticle Coatings for Transparent Radiative Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Transparent radiative cooling coatings are achieved by immobilizing solid and hollow silica spheres on glass. Particle morphology within sub‐monolayer coatings is shown to govern the trade‐off between visible and atmospheric window reflectance. Hollow‐sphere structures enable reduced thermal emission losses while preserving transparency, highlighting ...

Hybrid Integrated Nanophotonic Silicon-based Structures [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Physics, 2019
We report nanophotonic silicon-based devices for hybrid integration: 1D photonic crystal (PhC) on optical fiber, i. e. fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing probe integrated in fiber laser structure for chemical sensors and slotted planar 2D PhC cavity combined with carbon nanotube (CNT) towards light nanosources.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Exploring Silicon Nanophotonics in Throughput Architecture

open access: yesIEEE Design & Test, 2014
In high-performance throughput processors, the interconnect experiences power and energy bottlenecks due to massive parallelism and ever-increasing memory accesses in emerging workloads. Also, high-performance throughput processors have exposed bandwidth and latency bottlenecks in on-chip interconnect and off-chip memory access.

Tunable Extraordinary Optical Transmission in the Long‐Wavelength Infrared Range Using Electrostatic MEMS Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A MEMS‐integrated metamaterial filter enables continuous, low‐voltage spectral tuning in the long‐wavelength infrared (LWIR). The device employs extraordinary optical transmission in a dual suspended metasurface stack, where electrostatic actuation precisely controls the intermembrane air gap.

Si-Ge-Silica Monolithic Integration Platform and Its Application to a 22-Gb/s $\times$ 16-ch WDM Receiver

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
We describe a Si-Ge-silica monolithic integration platform for telecommunications applications. The monolithic integration process features low-temperature silica film deposition by electron-cyclotron-resonance chemical vapor deposition to prevent ...
