Co‐packaged datacenter optics: Opportunities and challenges
Abstract High‐capacity, high‐density, power‐, and cost‐efficient optical links are undoubtedly of critical importance for datacenter infrastructure. However, the optics roadmap has come to a fork in the road: Is it right to continue on the tried and proven path of pluggable modules or is it time to adopt a new deployment model that involves co‐packaged

A CMOS‐compatible silicon‐photonic 4 × 4 coherent receiver array spatially samples turbulence‐distorted wavefronts and, with maximum‐ratio combining, enables signal recovery. Experimental BPSK tests under moderate turbulence approach theoretical combining efficiency, reducing BER from 1E‐2 to 1E‐15.

High‐Speed Multimode Fiber Imaging Using Binary‐Modulated Silicon Photonics Optical Phased Array
A multimode fiber imaging system at 500 frames per second is experimentally demonstrated. It is enabled by a p‐i‐n diode‐based silicon photonics optical phased array. To simplify the electrical driving of p‐i‐n diodes, a binary modulation method with a costumed‐designed digital driver circuit is proposed. Reconstruction of each frame takes only 0.1 ms,
