Silicone synovitis

Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, 1989
Silicone synovitis around a broken silicone elastomer finger joint implant was first described by Aptekar et al in 1974. More recently, it has become apparent that synovitis can result from abraded particles from intact prostheses, which can cause severe damage to adjacent bones and joints.

Superstretchable and Processable Silicone Elastomers by Digital Light Processing 3D Printing.

ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2019
A series of photosensitive resins suitable for the production of silicone elastomers through digital light processing 3D printing are reported. Based on thiol-ene click reaction between a branched mercaptan-functionalized polysiloxane and different ...

Silicone Granuloma

Dermatology, 2000
Since silicone has rapidly become one of the most commonly used prosthetic materials in the last 30 years in modern medicine, we have consequently been witnessing more silicone-related disease. Especially after silicone breast implantation, defects in the breast implant have led to serious complications, whereas complications of silicone prosthesis ...

Optimization of Silicone 3D Printing with Hierarchical Machine Learning

3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing, 2019
Additive manufacturing of soft materials requires optimization of printable inks, formulations of these feedstocks, and complex printing processes that must balance a large number of disparate but highly correlated variables.

Electrical Charactristics of Polycrystalline Silicon-Silicon Nitride-Silicon Dioxide-Silicon Structures

Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1972
The influences of annealing at high temperatures and of impurity diffusion such as phosphorus and boron on fast surface states and instabilities under bias-temperature treatment were investigated. The fast surface states and instabilities increased by annealing in nitrogen, argon and oxygen. The instabilities were caused by the increase in conductivity

Silicone Implants

Hand Clinics, 1986
Infection has not been considered in this article with each individual implant. The incidence is low indeed. In the only publication concerned primarily with the topic of infection following silicone implant surgery, Millender et al. reviewed 2105 implants of varying kinds. There were ten infections, seven of which were with Staphylococcus aureus.

Silicon nephropathy

The American Journal of Medicine, 1975
A patient with excessive industrial exposure to silicon and an elevated silicon content in his renal tissue was found to have a distinctive nephropathy, characterized pathologically by changes in the glomeruli and proximal tubules, and manifested clinically by albuminuria and hypertension. Proximal tubular function was intact.

Silicone spaghetti

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2009
Migration of ventriculoperitoneal shunt catheters, although infrequent, is well reported. We report the unusual event of a patient who, after having had three shunt revisions over a 15-year period, presented with a per-oral extrusion of her original distal catheter.
