Improvement of Biocompatibility of Silicone Elastomer by Surface Modification

open access: yes, 2001
γ-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) was grafted to silicone due to emulsion polymerization to induce Si-OH groups, in order to provide silicone with bioactivity spontaneous deposition of apatite in body fluid and to improve cytocompatibility ...

Silicone elastomers for artificial muscles

open access: yes, 2023
Mimicking the characteristics of human muscles has been a scientific challenge for decades. The linear motion of human muscles, along with their self-healing properties and ability to achieve large strains while preserving stiffness, has proven difficult to imitate effectively by traditional means.

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

Cytocompatibility of Silicone Elastomer Treated with Hydrogenperoxide Containing Tantalum Chloride

open access: yes, 2000
Silicone elastomer was chemically treated at 60℃ for 7 days with 30 wt% H(2)O(2) solutions with or without TaCl(5) and soaked for various periods in a simulated body fluid(Kokubo solution) up to 21 days.

Light Switchable Ionic Conductivity of Arylazopyrazole Modified Polysiloxanes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present a polysiloxane functionalized with a novel arylazopyrazole dye that undergoes reversible photoisomerization. Upon lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide addition and UV irradiation, the polymer exhibits a shift in tan(d) toward higher frequencies and enhanced ionic conductivity.
