Microrheology of magnetorheological silicone elastomers during curing process under the presence of magnetic field

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
A microrheological method is employed for the first time to continuously and undisturbedly monitor variations of viscoelasticity of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) based on silica-coated carbonyl iron particles (SiCIPs)-filled ...

Silicone elastomers with covalently incorporated aromatic voltage stabilisers

open access: yes, 2017
When optimising dielectric elastomers (DEs) a conflict exists, namely that for large achievable actuation strains softness is required, but with increased softness electrical breakdown strength decreases.

Two‐Way Shape Memory Polymer Composite Gripper for Adaptive Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A two‐way shape memory polymer (SMP) composite is developed with intrinsic shape‐changing capability driven solely by temperature, eliminating external actuation loads. Embedding the SMP in a low‐stiffness elastomeric matrix enabled reversible transformations during heating and cooling cycles.

Voltage-stabilised elastomers with increased relative permittivity and high electrical breakdown strength by means of phase separating binary copolymer blends of silicone elastomers

open access: yes, 2017
Increased electrical breakdown strength and increased dielectric permittivity of silicone-based dielectric elastomers are achieved by means of the addition of so-called voltage-stabilisers prepared from PDMS–PPMS copolymers as well as PDMS–PEG copolymers

Light Switchable Ionic Conductivity of Arylazopyrazole Modified Polysiloxanes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present a polysiloxane functionalized with a novel arylazopyrazole dye that undergoes reversible photoisomerization. Upon lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide addition and UV irradiation, the polymer exhibits a shift in tan(d) toward higher frequencies and enhanced ionic conductivity.
