Film dynamics and lubricant depletion by droplets moving on lubricated surfaces

open access: yes, 2018
Lubricated surfaces have shown promise in numerous applications where impinging foreign droplets must be removed easily; however, before they can be widely adopted, the problem of lubricant depletion, which eventually leads to decreased performance, must

An Injection‐Molded Modified Silicone Rubber for Cancer‐on‐Chip Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 6, March 18, 2025.
This study describes the characterization and application of an injection‐molded functionalized PDMS fluidic insert for the commercially available Micronit system. Modified PDMS can accommodate cell culture and is able to covalently bind proteins for long‐lasting coatings under flow‐conditions.

An Evaluation of The Host Response to An Interspinous Process Device Based on A Series of Spine Explants: Device for Intervertebral Assisted Motion (DIAM®) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the host response to an interspinous process device [Device for Intervertebral Assisted Motion (DIAM®)] based on a series of nine spine explants with a mean post-operative explant time of 35 months.

Using wetting and ultrasonic waves to extract oil from oil/water mixtures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Oil and water phases placed on top of a solid surface respond differently to a MHz-level surface acoustic wave (SAW) propagating in the solid due to their different surface tensions and the corresponding capillary stresses. We observe that, under SAW excitation, oil films are extracted continuously from sessile drops of silicone-oil/water/surfactant ...

Uniting Superhydrophobic, Superoleophobic and Lubricating Fluid Infused Slippery Behavior on Copper Oxide Nano-structured Substrates [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Copper oxide nanostructures with spherical (0D), needle (1D) and hierarchical cauliflower (3D) morphologies are used to demonstrate superhydrophobic, superoleophobic and slippery behavior. These nanostructures are synthesized on galvanized steel substrates using a simple chemical bath deposition method by tuning precursor concentration.

Microfluidic Production of Ultrathin, Handleable Collagen Sheets Exhibiting Toe‐heel Tensile Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study presents a microfluidic wet spinning technique for producing ultrathin, templated collagen sheets with hierarchical organization at the microscale. The aligned collagen sheets replicate strain‐stiffening behavior associated with native cardiovascular tissues, sup cell attachment and contraction, and enable biofabrication of load‐bearing ...

Design of a Simple and Rugged Soft Polydimethylsiloxane‐Carbon Nanotube‐Graphene‐Based Composite Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This research presents an easy to fabricate, low‐cost, flexible piezoresistive deformation sensor comprised of a carbon nanotube, few‐layer graphene, and polydimethylsiloxane composite. The sensor detects deformations and vibrations up to 600 Hz with 0.1% strain sensitivity from stiff and soft targets in dry and wet environments.
