Characteristics, fates and complications of long-term silicone oil tamponade after pars plana vitrectomy

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology, 2020
Background Silicone oil tamponade has become a mainstay in treatment of advanced retinal detachment due to multiple etiologies. The aim of this study is to assess the characteristics, fates and complications of long-term silicone oil tamponade after par ...

Slow-sound photoacoustic microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We propose to enhance the axial resolution of photoacoustic microscopy (PAM) by reducing the speed of sound within the imaging region of interest. With silicone oil immersion, we have achieved a finest axial resolution of 5.8 μm for PAM, as validated by ...

Endophthalmitis in Silicone Oil-Filled Eyes

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2023
Incidences of post pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) endophthalmitis vary between 0.02% and 0.13%, and infectious endophthalmitis in silicone oil-filled eyes is even rarer. We performed a literature review to describe the incidence, protective and predisposing factors, causative pathogens, management options, and prognosis of infectious endophthalmitis in ...

Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Paradoxical Coffee-Stain Effect Driven by the Marangoni Flow Observed on Oil-Infused Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesCOLLOIDS AND SURFACES A-PHYSICOCHEMICAL AND ENGINEERING ASPECTS Volume: 522 Pages: 355-360 Published: JUN 5 2017, 2017
Formation of coffee stain deposits under evaporation of droplets containing aqueous solution of salts placed on silicone-oil impregnated substrates was observed. The formation of ring-like deposits was registered for various molar concentrations of salts for the droplets of 5-300 microlitres in volume.

Injectable silicon oils - complications [PDF]

open access: yesDermatology Online Journal, 2016
There have been reports of the use of silicone oils in injectable form for cosmetic purposes since the 1940s. With the popularization of the use of this technique in the mid-60s, there have been a wide range of adverse effects reported. We report a 32-year-old woman, who had intramuscular injections of an unknown substance, which led to serious ...

Covalent Adaptable Networks with Associative Siloxane Exchange Enabled by Amide‐Based Internal Catalysis: Designing for Reprocessability and Extrudability by Increasing the Cross‐Link Density

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Internally catalyzed siloxane dynamic chemistry is demonstrated resulting from amides covalently linked through alkyl chains to siloxanes. The alkyl length in the siloxane‐containing monomer tunes the network cross‐link density. Siloxane exchange dynamics are faster with increasing cross‐link density, because associative exchange is second order in ...

PHYSICAL AND СHEMICAL ASPECTS OF DOUBLE TAMPONADE (PFCL AND SO) OF VITREOUS CAVITY

open access: yesОфтальмохирургия, 2015
Background. The authors previously developed a method of vitreous cavity double tamponade with perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) and silicone oil (SO) in retinal detachment surgery.
