Shock wave induced cavitation of silicone oils [PDF]
The cavitation threshold of polydimethylsiloxane (silicone) oils was studied using the planar impact of flyer plates to generate large transient negative pressures within the liquids. The plate-impact experiments used a 64-mm-bore gas-gun to launch thin sabot-supported flyer plates onto liquid capsule targets in which a thin Mylar diaphragm formed a ...

Smart Polymeric 3D Microscaffolds Hosting Spheroids for Neuronal Research via Quantum Metrology
Development of a platform consisting of 3D microscaffolds supporting 3D embryoid bodies for neuronal research. The polymeric scaffolds enable directed growth of neurites. This study shows nanodiamond‐based quantum sensors graft onto the polymer material, enabling quantum metrology experiments within the 3D neuronal model and thereby providing a ...

Characterization of the dissolution of water microdroplets in oil [PDF]
Water in oil emulsions have a wide range of applications from chemical technology to microfluidics, where the stability of water droplets is of paramount importance. Here using an accessible and easily reproducible experimental setup we describe and characterize the dissolution of water in oil, which renders nanoliter-sized droplets unstable, resulting

Tattoo Assisted Optical Sensor System for Multimodal Discrete Physiological Sensing
Conventional temporary tattoos can be used for improving the speckle imaging signal‐to‐noise ratio and stability of the specifically developed device for capturing skin motion related to physiological activities beneath the skin. This allows for sensing multimodal electrophysiological signals and physiological events from the skin consistent with ...

Droplets on posterior surface of intraocular lens in silicone oil filled eye.
Silicone oil adherence to silicone IOLs after silicone oil removal is a known complication in pseudophakic patients. Droplet removal is difficult and may require IOL exchange.

This study developed 3D‐printable THA‐Col microgels for delivering BMP‐7 cmRNA. The key result is that hMSCs transfected on the biomaterials showed BMP‐7 secretion levels comparable to pre‐transfected hMSCs, therefore introducing a cmRNA‐activated matrix to promote bone healing.

Design of the KOSMOS oil-coupled spectrograph camera lenses [PDF]
We present the design details of oil-coupled lens groups used in the KOSMOS spectrograph camera. The oil-coupled groups use silicone rubber O-rings in a unique way to accurately center lens elements with high radial and axial stiffness while also allowing easy assembly.
