Silicatein filaments and subunits from a marine sponge direct the polymerization of silica and silicones in vitro.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1999
Nanoscale control of the polymerization of silicon and oxygen determines the structures and properties of a wide range of siloxane-based materials, including glasses, ceramics, mesoporous molecular sieves and catalysts, elastomers, resins, insulators ...

Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Covalent Adaptable Networks with Associative Siloxane Exchange Enabled by Amide‐Based Internal Catalysis: Designing for Reprocessability and Extrudability by Increasing the Cross‐Link Density

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Internally catalyzed siloxane dynamic chemistry is demonstrated resulting from amides covalently linked through alkyl chains to siloxanes. The alkyl length in the siloxane‐containing monomer tunes the network cross‐link density. Siloxane exchange dynamics are faster with increasing cross‐link density, because associative exchange is second order in ...

Quantum Dots and Perovskites‐Based Physically Unclonable Functions for Binary and Ternary Keys via Optical‐to‐Electrical Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates optoelectronic PUFs that improve on traditional optical and electrical PUFs. The absorber materials are randomly coated through spray coating, ligand exchange, and dynamic spin coating. Incident light generates wavelength‐dependent binary multikey and enhances security ternary keys, approaching near‐ideal inter‐ and intra ...

Cell‐Delivering Injectable Hydrogels with Tunable Microporous Structures Improve Therapeutic Efficacy for Volumetric Muscle Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an injectable hydrogel with tunable microporosity to improve mesenchymal stem cell delivery for volumetric muscle loss treatment. Mesenchymal stem cells encapsulated in porous hydrogels significantly promote the spreading, proliferation, and cytokine secretion of mesenchymal stem cells.

Effect of a silicon-based sealing agent (GapSeal) on the reverse torque value of the abutment–implant screw [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dental Materials and Techniques
Objective: One major cause of dental implant failure is screw loosening. Silicone sealants have been introduced to reduce the gap between abutments and implants, potentially reducing screw loosening.
