The behavior of a compressible silty fine sand

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1999
Publications associated with sands are often limited to clean (i.e., little fines content), uniform, uncemented silica or quartz sand. On the other hand, the importance of mineral content, particle shapes, as well as gradation to the behavior of sand has long been recognized.

Shear Strength and Stiffness of Silty Sand

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2000
The properties of clean sands pertaining to shear strength and stiffness have been studied extensively. However, natural sands generally contain significant amounts of silt and/or clay. The mechanical response of such soils is different from that of clean sands.

Liquefaction Screening—Non-plastic Silty Sands and Sands

2018
Liquefaction screening of sands and silty sands using cone penetration resistance is a difficult problem. The presence of silt particles among the sand grains in non-plastic silty soils alter the intergrain contact density and affect cyclic resistance, flow and consolidation characteristics, and cone resistance of the soil.

A Case Study on Silty Sand Liquefaction

2016
Silty sand liquefaction has been of great interest of research in geotechnical earthquake engineering. This article presents preliminary results of a case study on nonplastic silty sand liquefaction. Influence factors such as fines contents and disturbance effects on dynamic properties of silty sand are carefully discussed in this paper.

Mitigation of Liquefaction Potential of Silty Sands

From Research to Practice in Geotechnical Engineering, 2008
Mitigation of liquefaction potential of soils with fines contents greater than 15 to 20 percent usually requires special adaptation of the dynamic densification methods — Deep Dynamic Compaction, Explosive Compaction, Vibro-Compaction, Compaction Piles — that are ordinarily used to improve loose, clean cohesionless soils.

Using Paper as Reinforcement in Silty Sand

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Reinforced soil has been among the most effective soil modification materials. Its use has been expanded rapidly into civil engineering, geotechnical engineering and pavement engineering. Reinforcing subgarde in pavement systems has always been an issue.

Dynamic Feature Analysis for Silty Sand

Advanced Materials Research, 2015
Dynamic shear modulus is proportional to average principal stress.Cyclic varied surrounding pressure isn't proportional to cyclic varied pore water pressure. The dynamic triaxial test with cyclic surrounding pressure can apply cyclic surrounding pressure. The dynamic triaxial test with cyclic surrounding pressure can apply cyclic surrounding pressure in ...

Unsaturated shear strength of a silty sand

Engineering Geology, 2013
Abstract Series of single stage, consolidated drained direct shear tests under different net normal stresses and matric suctions were carried out to evaluate the unsaturated shear strength behavior of a silty sand. A back pressure shear box was used to measure and control pore-air and pore-water pressures.

Liquefaction potential of reinforced silty sands

2015
In this study a series of cyclic triaxial tests were performed to examine the undrained dynamic resistance of silty sand reinforced with various arrangements of geotextile layers. The silt content of samples varies in percentage from 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50%.

Suffusion compressibility of cemented silty sands

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 1991
The All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Foundations and Underground Structures has investigated the mechanical properties of cemented silty sands. The soils for the tests were taken from the sites at the Tengizsk oil-gas deposit.
