A revision ofSilvanus(Coleoptera: Silvanidae) from India

Abstract Systematic position and relationship of Silvanus Latreille is discussed. Silvanus is redefined with several additional characters. Five new species are described and illustrated. A key to the Indian species of Silvanus is given.

Lysine requirements of larvae of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) (Coleoptera, Silvanidae)

Abstract Larvae of the saw-toothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), survived in greater numbers and developed quicker as the concentration of l-lysine in the diet increased from 0 to 1·37 per cent. At higher concentrations the number surviving and the rate of growth decreased.

Variation in life history parameters of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L). (Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Abstract Rates of survival and development of immature stages, and survival and fertility of adults of four field populations and two laboratory strains of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) were compared. Population parameters of the field populations were generally similar, although one had a lower fertility rate.
