Fresh-stem bending of silver fir and Norway spruce [PDF]

open access: yesTree Physiology, 2008
The bending and growth characteristics of large fresh stems from four silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and three Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) trees were studied. Twenty logs taken from different stem heights were subjected to four-point bending tests.

Reaction of Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) plantation to fertilization

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2005
Silver fir as a domestic species is an important tree in our forests. Unfortunately it has suffered from serious dieback in Central Europe in the last decades.

Beech and silver fir’s response along the Balkan’s latitudinal gradient [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractAt the 1000 km geographical distance in Dinaric montane forests of silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), the tree response from the north-western sites towards southern, warmer and dryer sites was performed during three consecutive growing seasons (2011, 2012 and 2013).

Assessment of macrofungal diversity in a Silver Fir plantation in Sardinia (Italy) using a standardized sampling procedure

open access: yesItalian Journal of Mycology, 2015
The knowledge of macrofungal diversity associated with Silver Fir forests in Italy is quite scarce. Only a little information is available about macrofungal communities from some Ligurian and Tuscan Silver Fir sites.

The effect of canopy position on growth and mortality in mixed sapling communities during self-thinning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This research investigates how species in the sapling phase differ in growth and survival depending on light availability (as estimated by canopy position) by means of tree-ring analysis and modelling mortality.

Changes in the silver fir forest vegetation 50 years after cessation of active management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Knowledge of the vegetation and the monitoring of its changes in preserved areas is an essential part of effective conservation policy and management.

Genetic analysis of silver-fir populations in the Beskids [PDF]

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2011
Twenty-eight isozymic loci were studied in the Beskid Mts., in four populations of common silver-fir (<em>Abies alba</em>): one in Beskid Makowski (BM) and three populations in Beskid Sądecki (BS). Their genetic variation and diversity were analyzed, and Nei's genetic distances between the populations were calculated.

First record of Hericium flagellum (Basidiomycota) from the “Olbina” nature reserve in Wielkopolska Voivodship, Poland

open access: yesActa Mycologica, 2019
Hericium flagellum (Scop.) Pers. is considered a rare, wood-decaying fungus that occurs on coniferous trees, predominantly on silver fir (Abies alba). In this paper, a new locality of H.

12 years of assembly patterns in saproxylic beetles suggest early decay wood as ephemeral resource patch. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Anim Ecol
We reveal that early stages of deadwood decomposition follow ecological rules of ephemeral resource patches. By tracking beetle communities over 12 years, we show how decomposition dynamics shape community assembly patterns, highlighting the importance of continuous deadwood input for sustaining saproxylic beetles in temperate forests.

Nutrition of silver fir (Abies alba Mill) growing at the upper limit of its occurrence in the Šumava National Park and Protected Landscape Area

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science, 2010
In the second half of 20th century silver fir regeneration has been observed throughout all of the Europe, including the Czech Republic. The Bohemian Forest - Šumava Mts.
