Enhanced absorption of Langmuir-Blodgett monolayers on silver island films
Thin Solid Films, 1989Abstract Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of N,N ′-dioctadecyl rhodamine B (RhB derivative) were deposited on silver island films. The absorption spectra of the composite films were measured. Enhancement of the absorption was detected. The degree of enhancement decreased as the distance between the silver island film surface and the dye monolayers ...

Preparation of silver island films with tunable surface plasmon resonance
SPIE Proceedings, 2012Silver (Ag) island films have been prepared by pulsed laser ablation in vacuum using a XeCl excimer laser. The effects of the number of ablation pulses, the temperature and time of post-annealing on morphology and surface plasmons properties of the prepared Ag island films were investigated by extinction spectra and scanning electron microscopy.

Strong Photoluminescence Enhancement from Colloidal Quantum Dot Near Silver Nano-Island Films
Journal of Fluorescence, 2010We present the fabrication and optical investigation of highly random self-assembled, nano-scale films, probing their influence on the luminescence properties of near surface CdSe/ZnS colloidal quantum dots. When compared to quantum dots distributed on unstructured quartz substrates, the average luminescence intensity is found to be enhanced by a ...

Surface-enhanced optical third-harmonic generation in silver island films
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Surface-enhanced optical third-harmonic generation (THG)is observed in silver island films. The THG intensity from 2-D array of silver nanoparticles is enhanced by two orders of magnitude and the enhancement is attributed to the local field resonance at third-harmonic wavelength mediated by excitation of the local surface lasmons.

Optical properties of silver island films in the attenuated-total-reflection geometry
Applied Optics, 1986The absorptances of 633-nm photons by silver island films formed on room temperature substrates were measured in an attenuated-total-reflection geometry by the photoacoustic method as a function of the angle of photon incidence. From the data obtained for s-polarized light ∊″, the effective dielectric function for the direction parallel to the film and

Infrared Absorption Enhancement of C60 by Overlaying Thin Silver Island Films
Applied Spectroscopy, 2004Normal-incidence infrared absorption has been observed for silver overlaid C60 thin films formed on surface-oxidized Si(111) substrates as a function of the silver or C60 film thickness. The absorption spectra exhibit bands at 1429 and 1180 cm−1 due, respectively, to the infrared active T1u (4) and T1u (3) modes of C60 in multi-layers.

Preparation and optical property of island silver films embedded in silica
SPIE Proceedings, 2000Island silver films (nanoclusters, quantum dots) embedded in silica are prepared on silicon wafers and glasses by sputtering. Atomic force microscope is used to characterize the morphology and distribution of silver nanoclusters, the size of nanoclusters varies from several ten to several hundred nanometers.

Surface decoration of Langmuir-Blodgett films with evaporated silver islands
Thin Solid Films, 1989Abstract Silver was evaporated on Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of cadmium arachidate and phthalocyaninato-polysiloxane. Electron microscopy and UV-visible- near IR absorption spectroscopy show that the island formation and the sticking probability of silver depend on the thickness of the cadmium arachidate films.

Percolation characters of sputtered and vaporized semi-continuous silver island films
Applied Surface Science, 2005Abstract A series of discontinuous and semi-continuous silver island films were prepared with sputtering technique and vaporizing method, respectively. The plasmon resonance absorption in visible region, critical percolation infrared transmittance and the fractal dimension of two types of samples were investigated.
