Nanoscrews: Asymmetrical Etching of Silver Nanowires

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016
World's smallest screws with helical threads are synthesized via mild etching of Ag nanowires. With detailed characterization, we show that this nanostructure arises not from the transformation of the initial lattice, but the result of a unique etching mode.

A simple method of growing silver chloride nanocubes on silver nanowires

Nanotechnology, 2015
The growth of AgCl nanocubes directly on the sidewalls of Ag nanowires is demonstrated. The nanocubes can be simply obtained through extended low temperature annealing of polyol-synthesized silver nanowires in a vacuum. The length of time and temperature of the anneal and the diameter of the nanowire affect the size and density of the nanocubes ...

A Facile Route to Silver Nanowires

Chemistry Letters, 2006
Abstract This letter describes a facile self-seeding route to silver nanowires using Dextran which worked as both a sacrificial template and a reducing reagent in aqueous solution. In the entire process, there are not any exotic seeds or stabilizers needed, and the growth mechanism is also briefly discussed.

Programmed Assembly of DNA Templates by Silver Nanowires

ChemPlusChem, 2022
AbstractDNA origami templates are known to exhibit many advantages to integrate functional components at desirable locations for nanoelectronic applications. In order to immobilize conducting or semiconducting species in a bottom‐up approach, the programmed assembly of DNA templates is of utmost necessity.

Silver nanowires for photonics applications

Laser & Photonics Reviews, 2013
AbstractAlthough silver nanowires as plasmonic components have been investigated extensively in both theoretical and experimental studies, a systematic study is still lacking. In this work, a review is given to explain some basic features of experimentally prepared nanowires and their optical properties in different situations, such as waveguides ...

Polyaniline-coated silver nanowires

Reactive and Functional Polymers, 2010
Abstract Two non-conducting chemicals, aniline and silver nitrate, dissolved in formic acid solutions, yielded a composite of two conducting products, polyaniline and silver. As the concentration of formic acid increased, an alternative reaction, the reduction of silver nitrate with formic acid to silver became dominant, and the content of silver in ...

Propagating plasmons on silver nanowires

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
Chemically synthesized Ag nanowires (NWs) can serve as waveguides to support propagating surface plasmons (SPs). By using the propagating SPs on Ag NWs, the surface-enhanced Raman scattering of molecules, located in the nanowire-nanoparticle junction a few microns away from the laser spot on one end of the NW, was excited.

Growth of silver nanowires on GaAs wafers

Nanoscale, 2011
Silver (Ag) nanowires with chemically clean surfaces have been directly grown on semi-insulating gallium arsenide (GaAs) wafers through a simple solution/solid interfacial reaction (SSIR) between the GaAs wafers themselves and aqueous solutions of silver nitrate (AgNO(3)) at room temperature.

Synthesis and Characterization of Silver Nanowires

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
ABSTRACT Silver nanowires have been synthesized by polyol process with ethylene glycol as solvent and PVP as capping agent. The silver nanowires have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Transmission electron microscope (TEM) techniques.

Silver Selenide Nanowires by Electrodeposition

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2003
Silver selenide nanowires were synthesized by potentiostatic electrodeposition into porous anodic alumina membranes from an aqueous acid electrolyte containing silver ion complexed with and selenium dioxide at room temperature. Electron microscopy results showed that the lengths, diameters, and growth directions of the nanowires are quite uniform.
