Possibilistic Similarity Measures
2019The concept of similarity plays an essential role in a wide range of application fields like pattern recognition, reasoning, data, and knowledge mining. Nevertheless, the formulation of a valid and general-purpose definition of the similarity concept cannot be easily and simply expressed by a formula and remains a challenging issue.

The subject of this chapter is image similarity measures. These measure provide a quantitative measure of the degree of match between two images, or image patches, A and B. Image similarity measures play an important role in many image fusion algorithms and applications including retrieval, classification, change detection, quality evaluation and ...

The goal of ontology matching is to find relations between entities expressed in different ontologies. Very often, these relations are equivalence relations that are discovered through the measure of similarity between these entities. However, more elaborate methods may directly find more precise relations.

The purpose of an image retrieval system is to organize and index images so that if we have a large number of images in the database, given a query image, the relevant images can be retrieved efficiently upon request. Relevant images is a list of images from the database which are most “similar”in some aspects to the query image.

After an introduction to self-similar deterministic and random measures, we introduce an algorithm which decides on the separation condition for given similarity mappings defining a self-similar set. We construct some new types of Sierpinski gasket and determine their exponent of interior distance.

Semantic Similarity Functions and Measures
2019Similarity is the process through which two or more objects are compared in order to identify to what extent they are alike. This is useful, for instance, when there is the need to identify common elements among a set of objects or when a new object has to be classified w.r.t. the others.
