Similarity Measures of Remotely Sensed Multi-Sensor Images for Change Detection Applications

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2009
Change detection of remotely sensed images is a particularly challenging task when the time series data come from different sensors. Indeed, many change indicators are based on radiometry measurements, used to calculate differences or ratios, that are no

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Efficacy of Fuzzy-Stat Modelling in Classification of Gynaecologists and Patients

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Systems, 2016
Fuzzy logic-based inference systems depend on the domain experts’ perceptions, which are intrinsically imprecise/vague/fuzzy. The perceptions of more than one expert are needed in the decision-making process.

Searching for and positioning of contextualized learning objects

open access: yesInternational Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, 2012
Learning object economies are marketplaces for the sharing and reuse of learning objects (LO). There are many motivations for stimulating the development of the LO economy.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Orthopairian fuzzy similarity based on below, above and centre fuzzy sets with applications to pattern recognition and identification of best ISP [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST)
Similarity measure plays an important role when estimating the degree of resemblance between two sets or objects. A variety of similarity measures are suggested in the literature in the context of fuzzy sets and their generalizations, but a similarity ...

A Survey of Binary Similarity and Distance Measures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics, 2010
The binary feature vector is one of the most common representations of patterns and measuring similarity and distance measures play a critical role in many problems such as clustering, classification, etc. Ever since Jaccard proposed a similarity measure

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Intuitionistic Fuzzy Similarity Measures and Their Role in Classification

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Systems, 2016
We present some similarity and distance measures between intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs). Thus, we propose two semi-metric distance measures between IFSs.
