Journal of Algebra, 2014 A module \(M\) over a ring is said to be simple-direct-injective if for any two simple submodules \(A\) and \(B\) of \(M\) with \(A\cong B\) and \(B\subset^\oplus M\), we have \(A\subset^\oplus M\). In the paper under review some well-studied rings are characterized using simple-direct-injective modules.

This is motivated by a recent result of Robinson [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 43 (2011), 712–716] showing that simple endotrivial modules of most groups come from quasi-simple groups.
