Simple pendulum in a rotating reference frame

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ensino de Física
Describing the harmonic motion of a simple pendulum observed from a rotating reference frame necessitates solving the differential equations governing three-dimensional motion in a non-inertial reference frame, which can be a challenging endeavor for ...

Comparison of two different methods of preoperative marking for toric intraocular lens implantation: bubble marker versus pendulum marker [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Ophthalmology, 2016
AIM: To compare the accuracy of two different methods of preoperative marking for toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation, bubble marker versus pendulum marker, as a means of establishing the reference point for the final alignment of the toric IOL to ...

Light‑Driven Propulsion of Graphene Aerogels in Microgravity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ultralight graphene aerogels convert laser light into thrust. Parabolic‐flight experiments directly compare their motion in microgravity and at 1 g, revealing order‐of‐magnitude enhancements in distance, velocity, and transient thrust when weight and friction are removed (∼50 times enhancement).

Dynamics of Simple Balancing Models with State Dependent Switching Control

open access: yes, 2011
Time-delayed control in a balancing problem may be a nonsmooth function for a variety of reasons. In this paper we study a simple model of the control of an inverted pendulum by either a connected movable cart or an applied torque for which the control ...

Predicting Performance of Hall Effect Ion Source Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
This study introduces HallNN, a machine learning tool for predicting Hall effect ion source performance using a neural network ensemble trained on data generated from numerical simulations. HallNN provides faster and more accurate predictions than numerical methods and traditional scaling laws, making it valuable for designing and optimizing Hall ...

Path Integral Approach to 't Hooft's Derivation of Quantum from Classical Physics

open access: yes, 2004
We present a path-integral formulation of 't Hooft's derivation of quantum from classical physics. The crucial ingredient of this formulation is Gozzi et al.'s supersymmetric path integral of classical mechanics.

A study of conceptions of preservice physics teachers in relation to the simple pendulum

open access: yesThe Physical Educator, 2018
There is a huge body of research supporting a positive correlation between teachers’ content knowledge and better pedagogical practice. In this context, this study revealed serious gaps in a cohort of preservice physics teachers’ understanding of the ...

A compatibility criterion for optimal control and information aggregation in hierarchical network systems

open access: yesAsian Journal of Control, EarlyView.
Abstract Large swarms often adopt a hierarchical network structure that incorporates information aggregation. Although this approach offers significant advantages in terms of communication efficiency and computational complexity, it can also lead to degradation due to information constraints.

The Impact of Pictorial Display on Operator Learning and Performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The effects of pictorially displayed information on human learning and performance of a simple control task were investigated. The controlled system was a harmonic oscillator and the system response was displayed to subjects as either an animated ...
